I have an Acer Aspire as above with just 2GB of memory. I'm told that I can upgrade it to as much as 8GB but what I need to know is :-

1) is it just one bank of 8GB memory or is it two banks of 4GB memory?

2) what type of memory is it that is fitted?

3) is there a photo or anything like that where I can see what I'm going to encounter as I take the bottom of the machine off? I'd like to see what I'm doing before I make a start.

Yes, it has a single RAM socket that will accept up to one 8GB DDR3L sodimm up to 1600MHz speed. Crucial.com should have the 8GB sodimm for your model.  Unfortunately, the RAM socket is on the top of the mainboard and requires quite a bit of disasembly to access the RAM socket. Here is a youtube video of the disassembly process to replace the RAM sodimm..
