Hello, dont judge me too harshly, I should have asked before doing the install. I am relatively new, and in the past only performed simple hardware swaps for gaming upgrades, but never this.

I had hard time understanding the instructions which came with the fan, and after watching a couple of videos on youtube couldnt figure out the if the metal bracket which holds the CPU in place should be removed. I took it completely off, as I couldnt reach the 4 screw holes with my cooler assembly screws. So i took the metal frame with a lift arm completely off. Installed the plastic black bracket and post screws provided with the Cooler master hardware and sat the heat sink on top (with an MX4 paste) and secured the heat sink.

Is this wrong? SHould the original metal bracket have been somehow kept in place? I guess i could have, but the extended screws provided with Cooler Master hardware are thicker and in no way fit.

Also, the temps have improved significantly. Dropped from high 80s to high 60s during Evil Dead gameplay (the reason i bought the computer for in the first place)

No worries, mate. We are a friendly bunch.

You mean the shiny thingamagic that keeps the CPU in place? Like the on in the pic below?

Not sure you needed to remove it, but now that your temps are considerably lower than they used to be, I don't think you made any harm. When you remove the cooler next time, just remember to be careful. Most likely the CPU will be "glued" to the bottom of the cooler and will come out of the socket with it. It might be difficult to remove it from the base, if the CPU really doesn't want to be separated.

Enjoy your lower temps and hopefully lower fan noise as well. Good job!

ADDED: In my books if the performance gets better, temps lower and fan quieter... operation successful no matter what had to be done. ^^

@GotBanned Hi, this is exactly the part I am referring to! So, the reason I couldnt keep it is that it is attached to the X-shaped metal plate on the other side of the Motherboard which I had to replace with the X-shaped plastic bracket provided with Cooler master unit. Someone mentioned to be very careful if I ever have to remove the heatsink to reapply the paste, as it will lift the CPU from its cradle for sure.....
