PT516-51s Predator Triton 500 SE has unusually high idle and high-load temperatures, is it normal?

I recently bought a Predator Triton 500 SE from the US (I am using it in India currently), and noticed that it has very high CPU temperatures ~ 71 deg celsius when idle, and went up to 99 deg while gaming (Apex Legends). The keyboard and surrounding area is also hot to the touch when idle. It hasn't thermal throttled yet, but surely these temps are too high right? I have made no hardware/software changes, I literally opened the box 3 hours before writing this.

Another (related?) issue is that it beeps loudly whenever I plug in the charger.

(Idle CPU temp when not plugged in is 55 degrees)

Model - Predator PT516-51s

  • Have you tried replacing the thermal paste with kryonaut or similar? Are you referring to the gpu temperature?

    Have you ever performed undervolting?

    1. No, as I said the product is brand new and I haven't made any hardware/physical changes. The GPU temperatures are around the same as system temp (in the PredatorSense app) which is around 47 deg celsius when plugged in and idle. CPU temp is 70 deg idle and 99 deg while gaming, which I think is too high.
    2. Haven't tried undervolting, but I suspect this might be the issue as the laptop is from the US and I'm using it in India (some difference in voltages maybe). Can you provide a guide on how to undervolt this laptop?

More issues that might be related is that the charger gets too hot (much hotter than my previous laptop); and the CPU temp drops substantially when not plugged in. These things are probably normal, but just informing you about it.

Another thing I forgot to mention is that I've directly plugged the US plug into my Indian socket for charging, without using any adapters. Might be related to voltage issues.

So Throttlestop wasn't letting me undervolt, and after looking it up I found that Intel disabled undervolting on their CPUs recently. (Can you also look it up to confirm?)

Is there any other fix? Any other software to undervolt?

And any comments about the beep after plugging in the charger?

  • About the power adapter problem, are your outlets grounded?

A couple of comments from the Philippines: India's city power is 230 V 50 Hz while in the USA this is 110 V 60 Hz, your adapter may not be working efficiently in India. Get a European certified adapter ($25). I would not dream using an USA electrical power tool in the Philippines (plug, charger or adapter) and we have the USA elecrical system, 60 Hz. Battery powered tools no issues.

Don't play games on battery only and don't use Windows11 High Performance Power Plan but switch to the Balanced Power Plan. Disable all telemetric and background programs (AV?), check in Task Manager>Performance tab what is running when idle.

Clean your fan(s) it may have dust accumulated in the trap between the fan(s) outlet and heat sinks inlet, to access and clean that area properly you need to open the laptop and remove the fan(s). Always disconnect the battery cable to the MOBO when cleaning/upgrading your laptop.

The beep sound when plugging/unplugging the power adapter (or with city power outages) is an Acer feature on all laptops.
