Hi, I have a acer e15-551g which has some kind of bios issue
the laptop post but doesn't boot to any operating system I've tried changing harddrives, ram, thermal paste and finally narrowed it down to the bios in the span of two years 😅,the bios always booted so I never suspected it was the bios until I flashed it which to my surprise worked and I was booted into ubuntu everything seemed fine so turned it off and then on however this time it was exactly like before the laptop posts, shows acer logo turns offf and on again and then just stays on with fans not spining, upon further inspection I found that the rechargable CMOS battery is dead soo could that be a reason the flash didn't work or should I flash the bios chip(winbond 25Q64FVSIQ) using a flasher(previously I flashed using a bootable usb drive with the bios file inside it which I got from the acer website and extracted using uefitools (the bios version was the same version which was in the laptop). I'm writing this to find help or if I'm lucky to figure it out hope it helps someone else

Hard to tell how old this cell might be because it might've been sitting on a shelf for years before being installed. You can test this by tapping F2 on starrtup to enter the BIOS menu. Press F9 to load BIOS defaults, the F10 to save defaults and exit. If it then loads ubuntu OK but doesn't the next time after being turned off for a day or two, then yes it's not keeping the BIOS memory of boot drive parameters.1

The CMOS battery is also known as Real-time Clock (RTC). The estimated life of CMOS battery is about 3 years. It is used in computers to store BIOS information and settings. In case someone wants to reset all the BIOS settings even the password, then it has to be removed to achieve it.
If the CMOS battery is flat then the system does not the boot bios info to revert to. Change the CMOS battery as you will find that once you do that your Aspire E15-551G laptop should boot if your bios chip is not corrupted?
