AN517-52-52T3 built-in microphone stops working after going to sleep after using Zoom

I have a AN517-52-52T3 that was purchased in late Sept 2020. Twice now, the built-in microphone has stopped working under nearly identical circumstances. After using Zoom for class, I end class and then continue using the microphone in discord without issue. After putting the laptop to sleep and waking it up the next morning, the microphone no longer works in any application. The first time, I managed to resolve it with some combination of checking drivers and rolling back a supplemental Windows update followed by restarting. I don't remember exactly what I did because it was back in late January or early February.

But it happened again today and I've been unable to resolve it.

I've restarted normally, tested in Safe Mode, tested in multiple applications, updated drivers automatically, updated drivers manually using the ones on the Acer site, disabled it in device manager and re-enabled it, made sure all Windows Updates were done (they were pending, so none had been done recently for me to roll back), and checked Windows hardware troubleshooting and it didn't detect any issues. Wired headsets work without issue, haven't tried wireless yet.

Acer chat support was at a loss and suggested a full restore followed by service, but I'm not really keen on either one as it's out of warranty and I usually upgrade every 2 years or so anyways. Anyone have any experience with it and any resolutions that don't require a factory reset? Or is there anything else I've missed or am I just sorta stuck with this unless I take drastic measures?

Is it worth reaching out to Zoom support seeing as this started after using their software each time?

Thanks for your help!

    Hi @ addiegaming

    1. Make sure your microphone is properly connected. ...
    2. Make sure the microphone or headset isn't muted.
    3. Check the microphone's volume on your computer. ...
    4. Check the app or software you're using.
    5. Make sure your computer is using the right microphone. ...
    6. If nothing else has worked, reboot your computer

This issue might occur due to incompatible or outdated drivers and missing updates. You may try to update the driver from Device Manager and check if this helps. Try to run Hardware Troubleshoote

It's the built in microphone so there are no connections to check. The built in microphone is not muted. The input volume is turned up to max and works perfectly fine if I use an external headset. It occurs in multiple apps (Zoom, Discord, Streamlabs OBS). My computer is set to the only microphone it has and still doesn't work. And as I mentioned above, I've restarted and updated the drivers as well as tried the hardware troubleshooter. None of these resolved the issue.

    Hi @addiegaming,

If your microphone isn't detected after updating Windows 10, you may need to give your apps permission to use it. To let apps access the microphone, select Start ,then select Settings > Privacy > Microphone . Select Change, then turn on Allow apps to access your microphone.

Hi there, thanks for the response. I've already done this as well. It didn't occur after an update but rather randomly, the morning after using Zoom (which only gets used once per week normally).

It's randomly working again this morning with zero changes made on my part, so something odd is definitely going on and I have the feeling this won't be the last time this happens.
