How to update BIOS outside of Windows on an r7-371t ?

Recently my disk went, and now I'm about to put in the new disk, but am having some issues.

So, as a step to TS and try to resolve the issue I wanted to update BIOS, as it is outdated.

But as I am currently not able to get the computer to recognise my disk I would have to do it outside of Windows, but I don't seem to find any information on how to do it for this computer.

Is it so simple that Acer simply don't offer the BIOS-files and function to do this??!?
Or am I simply missing the obvious somehow?

Any assistance would be rgeatly appreciated!

  • Hi! Can you upload from the bios information tab, with the new disk or ssd connected to the computer? First unplug the lithium battery and plug in the new disk or ssd. Then go to the information tab:

BIOS updates are risky even from inside Windows. They're even more risky from outside Windows and are rarely successful anyway.

What issues are you having since the BIOS firmware is the least likely cause?

So, first off, the issue I'm having is that the HW isn't recognized and identified by BIOS, so according to it I have no disk connected.

I have tried putting BIOS in to RAID mode as well as AHCI.
I have tried to use legacy boot and switch back.
I have tried putting the disk in to both of the available slots (M.2).

While I am changing slot I have as well disconnected the battery, even though the CMOS is still in.

The disk I am trying to connect is, at the moment, an NVMe.
I as well have a SATA III M.2 SSD with B+M connectors, but hardly think that will work as the slot in the computer is an "M" connection.

So, as a part of trying to get it to work I then wanted to flash BIOS, but I can't find any BIOS files except for .exe or any instructions apart from how to do it from within windows.

I could live-boot linux instead, but, as stated, flashing BIOS is volatile at best, so without having experience with specifically Acer or help on how to do it I wouldn't start it.

The BIOS currently looks like this:

@Pelli this model doesn't support NVMe SSD so it doesn't recognize anything in the BIOS. The M.2 SATA should fit in the M key slot because it was designed to work with the M key slot and B key slot.

Thank you and have a nice day!

You're BIOS isn't the problem. Either the NVME is defective or the mainboard buss has failed if it doesn't show up in the BIOS Information tab. The m.2 SATA B+M slot card will certainly fit and work in an M-key socket if the mainboard buss is still OK.

Yes, the Aspire R7-371T doesn't support an NVMe drive. Plug the SATA in and it should recognize it. There are only two versions of the BIOS on Acer's support site and neither had anything to do with storage changes. Your system came with Windows 8.1 Home and later had the Windows 10 upgrade pushed to it, so you should stay in UEFI boot mode. Since your old driver died you will want to just do a fresh install of the OS and it should grab the activation key from the BIOS, putting you back into Windows 10 Home without issues.
