Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater—A Modern Take on a Timeless Classic
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is an upcoming reimagining of the beloved 2004 game, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Developed by Konami and scheduled for release on October 11, 2024, this new title aims to preserve the essence of the original while introducing a range of enhancements and modern features. Set in the 1960s during the Cold War, the original game follows the protagonist, Naked Snake, as he embarks on a mission to rescue a Soviet scientist and thwart a nuclear threat. Renowned for its intricate storyline, stealth gameplay, and memorable characters, MGS Snake Eater has left a lasting impact on the gaming world.
One of the key aspects of MGS Delta Snake Eater is its commitment to staying true to the core elements that made the original game a classic. Fans can expect the iconic jungle environments, stealth mechanics, and engaging narrative to remain intact. However, the developers have also made significant updates to ensure the game feels fresh and relevant to contemporary players. This balance between nostalgia and innovation is a central theme in the remake's development.
New Features and Enhancements
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater retains the core gameplay mechanics of the original while introducing several enhancements designed to appeal to modern audiences. One significant addition is the option to choose between two gameplay styles: New Style, which features contemporary controls and an over-the-shoulder camera perspective, and Legacy Style, which preserves the classic controls and fixed overhead camera view from the original game. This flexibility allows players to engage with the game in a way that suits their preferences.
The developers have focused on refining the stealth mechanics, making them more intuitive and responsive. The camouflage system, a hallmark of the original game, has been upgraded to offer more options and strategies for players. Additionally, the CQC (Close Quarters Combat) system has been enhanced to provide smoother and more dynamic interactions during combat.
Another notable addition is the expanded survival mechanics. Players will now have more tools and resources at their disposal to navigate the harsh jungle environment. This includes new methods of hunting and gathering food, as well as improved medical systems for treating injuries.
Visual and Audio Upgrades
Advancements in technology have paved the way for improved graphics and audio. The game has been developed using Unreal Engine 5, resulting in stunning visual upgrades including realistic lighting, detailed character models, and enhanced environmental effects such as water reflections and foliage dynamics. These improvements not only enhance immersion but also maintain the atmospheric tension that characterized the original.
https://youtu.be/gLvYs_xbHU4?si=_zjEUaRJafhz6lWX
The visual overhaul extends beyond mere aesthetics; it aims to create a more immersive experience. The environments are rendered with meticulous detail, capturing the lush jungles and industrial settings that players will traverse. Real-time damage effects add another layer of realism; injuries sustained by Naked Snake will manifest visibly on his character model throughout the game.
In addition to the visual enhancements, the audio experience has been significantly improved. The original game was known for its memorable soundtrack and sound design, and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater builds upon this foundation. The developers have re-recorded and remastered the original music, ensuring that it retains its emotional impact while benefiting from modern audio technology. Moreover, the voice acting has been updated, with the original cast returning to reprise their roles, providing a connection to the classic game.
Faithfulness vs. Innovation
While Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater introduces many new elements, it remains faithful to the original game's spirit and narrative. The story, characters, and key plot points have been preserved, allowing both new and returning players to experience the rich and complex narrative that defines the series.
Producer Noriaki Okamura has emphasized that the team aims to strike a balance between honoring the classic while integrating modern enhancements. In a Production Hotline video, he stated that Konami would rather come down on the side of 'too faithful' than make drastic changes that could alter the essence of what made the original special.
However, fans can also look forward to some changes. One of the notable additions is the inclusion of a quick-dial function for the codec, allowing faster access to actions like choosing camouflage or saving the game. What's more, unlike in the original MGS Snake Eater, Snake now has the ability to crouch walk.
Another feature is the integration of modern gaming technologies. MGS Delta: Snake Eater will take full advantage of the capabilities of next-generation consoles and high-end PCs. This includes support for advanced graphics features such as Sony's PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology, artificial intelligence-driven upscaling, and ray tracing, which enhances lighting and reflections.
PC players will benefit from machines like the Predator Helios 16 Gaming Laptop. With its high-performance components, it ensures smooth and responsive gameplay. Console players might want to pair their PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S with displays such as the 31.5" Predator X32 X Gaming Monitor, which provides superior color accuracy and a high refresh rate for crisp visuals. Additionally, the game will support features like adaptive triggers and haptic feedback on compatible controllers, adding a tactile dimension to the gameplay.
Metal Gear Solid Delta Collector's Edition
Fans may want to act quickly to get their hands on the Collector's Edition since it's a limited quantity bundle that's only being sold through retail partners in the Americas. Bonuses that come with this edition include:
* The tactical edition of the game
* Metal game case
* Fabric and rubber patches
* Terrarium diorama
* A replica of Naked Snake's fake ID card with lanyard
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater represents not just a revival of a classic but also an evolution that respects its roots while embracing contemporary gaming trends. With the release date fast approaching, fans can look forward to revisiting this iconic title in a way that feels both familiar and refreshingly new.

Metaphor: ReFantazio—Persona Elements in a New Fantasy World
Atlus, the Japanese video game publisher and Sega subsidiary behind the critically acclaimed Persona series, has once again captured the attention of role-playing game (RPG) fans with its latest project, Metaphor: ReFantazio. Developed by Studio Zero, the game presents a blend of fantasy elements, creative world-building, and immersive storytelling, elements that Persona fans might find both familiar and exciting.
While Metaphor: ReFantazio is a fresh venture into a more traditional fantasy setting, its development carries echoes of the Persona series' gameplay mechanics, character development, and narrative techniques. The influence of Persona on Metaphor isn't hard to see, marking it as a spiritual successor in many ways, while also pushing new boundaries in terms of artistic direction and fantasy immersion.
Life in Euchronia
https://youtu.be/I_-BPELOl0M?si=RAC0DdO2WJQFyIrY
Metaphor: ReFantazio immerses players in the enchanting kingdom of Euchronia, where political intrigue and social conflict reign. This medieval setting allows for a complex narrative that explores themes of power and collective responsibility, inviting players to navigate alliances and rivalries while lifting a curse that affects the entire realm.
Social dynamics in Metaphor: ReFantazio shift away from the romantic relationships in the Persona series, focusing instead on building connections with a diverse cast of characters. As the protagonist, you must foster teamwork and collaboration, enhancing gameplay while reflecting broader societal themes. These relationships are crucial for leveling up and overcoming challenges, encouraging players to engage with multiple characters throughout their journey.
Time management in the game features a dynamic day-night cycle. Hunting for treasure, embarking on quests, and exploring dungeons are some activities to do during the daytime, while nighttime brings opportunities to establish bonds and reinforce relationships.
Combat and Strategy
While it's also a game with turn-based combat, Metaphor: ReFantazio introduces several gameplay mechanics that diverge from Persona. One notable feature is the Archetype system—somewhat like Personas—which allows players to assume a more powerful form in battle. Each Archetype has its own distinct set of skills and stat boosts.
https://youtu.be/dZeIHQdKuOk?si=bJzr-J3nTko-mtmT
The combat system itself offers the option of blending turn-based mechanics with real-time action elements. It's important to remember that strong social bonds formed with other individuals (also known as "Followers") tend to result in a stronger team that's more effective in combat. This seamless blend of narrative and gameplay leads to encounters that are both engaging and meaningful.
Return of Key Creators
An exciting aspect for Persona fans is the return of two key creative figures for Metaphor: ReFantazio. Shigenori Soejima, the character designer and art director behind Persona titles, brings his distinct style to Metaphor, creating striking character designs that define its fantasy aesthetic.
Similarly, Shoji Meguro, renowned for his genre-blending soundtracks in Persona, returns to compose the music for Metaphor: ReFantazio. His signature fusion of rock, jazz, and electronic elements results in a dynamic score that enhances the game’s emotional tone, seamlessly connecting Metaphor to its Persona roots.
Impressions from the Prologue Demo
Early impressions from the prologue demo suggest that Metaphor: ReFantazio successfully incorporates many beloved Persona elements while establishing its own identity. Fans have noted similarities in the social interactions, character development, and overall game structure.
Some players have expressed excitement about the familiar gameplay loop of balancing daily activities with combat encounters. The Archetype system and Follower mechanics have drawn particular interest, with players curious to see how these elements will evolve throughout the full game.
The fantasy setting has been well-received, offering a fresh backdrop for the Persona-inspired gameplay. Many fans appreciate the blend of traditional RPG elements with the modern sensibilities that Atlus brings to their games.
When Is the Metaphor: ReFantazio Release Date?
Set to launch on October 11, 2024, the game commemorates Atlus' 35th anniversary. Metaphor: ReFantazio platforms include PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
PC gamers might want to consider a laptop like the Nitro V 15, which offers the power and speed needed for smooth RPG sessions. On the console side, players can enhance their experience with a display like the 28" Predator XB3 Gaming Monitor, which provides vivid visuals and fast refresh rates that bring the fantasy world to life.
The game will be available in physical and digital standard editions and a digital deluxe edition. There's also the Metaphor: ReFantazio Collector's edition, which includes an artbook, a sticker sheet, and the soundtrack, as well as the Metaphor: ReFantazio Steelbook and many other perks.

Why Should You Buy an ARM Laptop?
Have you ever considered the architecture of your computer? Not the overall design, but the architecture -that’s the design and structure of the CPU (central processing unit) as well as its instruction set (the bridge between software and hardware). The architecture defines how your CPU works and interacts with other parts of the computer.
Our focus today is ARM architecture and how it benefits laptop users, delivering epic battery life and lightweight, ultimate portability.
If you’re moving fast and don’t want to get slowed down by your laptop, then an ARM laptop may be just the ticket.
Read on to discover the spark that lit the recent rise in ARM based laptop popularity, as well as how they stack up next to traditional x86 architecture. Finally, we’ll finish with the Pros and Cons of ARM laptops and have a sneaky peek at the Acer Swift 14 AI Qualcomm PC.
What are ARM laptops?
ARM laptops focus on a small, highly optimized instruction set, and run on ARM operating systems such as Windows on ARM and macOS. Delivering power efficiency and greatly extended battery life, ARM laptops are designed to be slim and lightweight, while still holding their own in everyday multitasking.
Before we wade deeper into the ARM arena, let’s quickly cover a few useful architecture acronyms. ARM is short for Advanced RISC Machine, while RISC means Reduced Instruction Set Computing. Prioritizing energy efficiency and simplicity, RISC design is commonly found in smartphones and increasingly in other portable devices such as laptops.
You may be wondering what caused the sudden increase in popularity for Windows ARM laptops? Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite processor was showcased at Computex 2024, reigniting global interest in ARM laptops. This surge in interest was largely down to the game-changing CPU, delivering dramatic improvements in performance, battery life, and of course AI integration.
ARM vs x86 architecture
To understand the differences between traditional x86 architecture and ARM, we need to look at the differences in their ISA (instruction set architecture). In contrast to the reduced interaction set computing (RISC) approach used by ARM processors, the traditional x86 architecture uses CISC (complex interaction set computing). CISC uses a larger set of instructions to complete complex tasks in fewer steps. This enables increased flexibility and processing power, but with more power consumption.
In layman’s terms, ARM processors consume less power and generate less heat, but typically display lower performance than x86 processors at the same clock speed. In contrast, x86 processors have higher power consumption and heat production, resulting in higher performance and ability to handle complex instruction sets. The ARM vs x86 debate is not really a case of which one is better, as you can see in this article, but more a matter of power efficiency and simplicity (ARM) vs performance and flexibility (x86).
Pros of ARM computers
Top notch battery life. As we saw in Computex 2024, the battery life of ARM devices is quite remarkable. This is all thanks to their energy efficient design: the simplified instruction set performs tasks with fewer, simpler operations. This requires less power, as the amount of transistors and processing tasks per cycle are reduced, in turn minimizing heat production. In combination with multiple cores that can “rest” when not in use, ARM processors incorporate graphics and other components into a single chip reducing the need for bucketloads of electricity to power the device.
More apps on ARM. While apps designed for x86 processors traditionally needed to be recompiled or run through emulators to function on ARM architecture, there are now an increasing number of apps that can be run natively on ARM devices. There are also an increasing number of ARM compatible apps and even emulators to run non-native apps on ARM Windows laptops, as you can discover here.
Lightweight and ready for the road. High power efficiency coupled with slim-line design make ARM laptops incredibly portable. For PC users in search of a device that fits comfortably in their backpack or briefcase, while delivering 24 hr+ battery life, ARM laptops cannot be bested!
For a few dollars less. Although ARM powered Windows laptops are a relatively recent arrival, their price tags are eminently approachable. Combining lightweight portability with solid multitasking power and long battery life, ARM laptops deliver shockingly good value for money.
Cons of ARM computers
Compatibility. As we mentioned above, there are ongoing software compatibility issues as well as limited support for x86-64 applications. The x86-64 architecture is the 64-bit CPU used in most home computers and servers -resultantly most applications are designed to run on this instruction set. As it stands there are limited ARM-native and compatible software, and many developers haven’t transitioned their software to ARM.
Performance. For resource intensive tasks like 3D rendering, virtualization and hyper-threading, ARM architecture doesn’t cut the mustard. X86 devices are still the preferred platforms for complex instruction sets and high performance capabilities.
Gaming. Let’s not forget gaming! With lower performance compared to x86 processors at the same clock speed, ARM processors won’t be able to handle AAA titles high end gaming. As you can see here, emulation is possible, and can be successful and efficient, but at this point in time, most games aren’t natively compatible with ARM architecture as they’re built for x86-x64 architecture.
Why should you arm yourself with an ARM computer?
If you’re after a laptop for general productivity and multitasking, then an ARM powered device may be the way forward. For stylish portability that won’t require you to remortgage your home, ARM laptops offer great bang for your buck. The lightweight, all-day battery life encourages productivity wherever you go, and when the day is done, ARM laptops are also the perfect platform for multimedia consumption.
The Acer Swift 14 AI Qualcomm PC is a Copilot+ PC powered by the Snapdragon X Series processor. Weighing in at 1.36kg, the 14.5-inch 2.5K touchscreen laptops can deliver up to 26 hours battery life before charging. Designed for the future, the Swift 14 AI is performance optimized for demanding tasks and sweat-free multitasking. Featuring AI integration throughout the device, form seamlessly meets function in the Swift 14 AI. For an exceptionally fast responsive and aesthetically pleasing introduction to the ARM, try out the Swift 14 AI today, and step into the future of on-the-go computing.

Major AAA Gaming Flops of 2024
2024 has seen its fair share of amazing games from major AAA developers, but not all have lived up to the hype. Despite massive budgets, talented development teams, and established franchises behind them, some of the year's biggest titles have failed to capture players' attention or meet the lofty expectations set for them. From disappointing gameplay mechanics to misguided design choices, these major gaming flops highlight the unpredictable nature of the industry. In this article, we’ll explore some of the most notable failures of the year, delving into what went wrong for each title.
1. Skull & Bones (Metacritic 59)
Skull & Bones has faced significant challenges since its release, making it one of Ubisoft's more underwhelming projects in recent years. While the game had potential, a combination of factors led to its struggle in the market.
One of the main issues was the game's lengthy development cycle, which lasted over a decade. Reports indicate that Ubisoft invested between $650 and $850 million into Skull & Bones, far exceeding the originally estimated $200 million. This extended development, with multiple redesigns, caused the project to balloon in cost, putting extra pressure on the game to succeed financially. Unfortunately, the return on this investment has yet to materialize, with the game struggling to capture a large player base.
At launch, Skull & Bones attracted around 850,000 players, but many of these were trial players taking advantage of the 8-hour free access. The game's high price tag of $70 also became a sticking point for many, with some critics and even Ubisoft employees suggesting it should have been priced lower, between $30 and $40. This price barrier likely discouraged a significant number of potential buyers, particularly given the mixed reception the game received.
While the game offered ship combat and open-world exploration, many players found these elements to be less engaging than expected. The combat mechanics were often described as clunky, and the open world felt somewhat restrictive. Players were hoping for a more dynamic, immersive pirate experience, similar to what Ubisoft had achieved with Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, but Skull & Bones struggled to offer that same level of depth. The live-service model and some repetitive gameplay loops may have further contributed to its inability to maintain player interest long-term.
Despite the challenges, the game did manage to build a core of dedicated players, with reports of those who stayed averaging three to four hours of play daily. However, this core audience wasn't enough to generate the buzz or ongoing success needed for a game of this scale. Currently, the player base has dwindled, with around 350-400 daily active players on Steam, a far cry from what Ubisoft had hoped for.
Skull & Bones was ambitious, but a combination of high expectations, pricing concerns, and gameplay that didn’t fully resonate with a broad audience led to its underperformance. Ubisoft has the opportunity to pivot and potentially revive interest in Skull & Bones, and perhaps under Tencent's leadership, things could change. For now, however, the game serves as a reminder of the challenges faced when large-scale projects fall short of expectations.
2. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (Metacritic 60)
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was a major flop due to a combination of misguided design choices, development mismanagement, and a failure to engage players in a crowded market. Developed by Rocksteady, known for its acclaimed Batman: Arkham series, the game suffered from a shift in focus from single-player storytelling to a live-service looter-shooter model, a genre the studio had no prior experience with. The decision to emphasize gun-based combat over the melee mechanics that Rocksteady had perfected in the Arkham series confused many players, especially given the nature of characters like Captain Boomerang and King Shark, who are traditionally associated with melee combat. This pivot felt forced and at odds with the characters, making the gameplay feel dissonant and unengaging.
Another major issue was the repetitiveness of the missions and encounters. The game primarily offered rinse-and-repeat objectives like "defend the area" or "defeat waves of enemies," with little variety or creativity in its mission design. This was further compounded by uninspired endgame content, such as the post-game "Incursions," which reused missions from the main campaign. Such uninspired design led many players to abandon the game after completing the campaign, which is a significant problem for a live-service game designed to retain players over time.
Rocksteady's perfectionist culture also contributed to the game's downfall. The studio experienced numerous delays and shifts in direction throughout the game's development, with leadership struggling to clearly communicate and review work, leading to inefficient development. The rigid perfectionism slowed progress and led to discarded content and ideas, resulting in a bloated and disjointed final product.
Despite a massive $200 million budget, Suicide Squad failed to attract a wide audience, receiving only a 60 out of 100 on Metacritic and poor player reception. Warner Bros. had hoped to recreate the success of other live-service games like Destiny, but the game’s lack of imaginative content, tedious gameplay loops, and poor alignment with Rocksteady's strengths ultimately sealed its fate as one of the biggest flops in gaming.
3. Senua's Saga: Hellblade II (Metacritic 81)
Hellblade 2 was disappointing to many because it focused heavily on visuals and sound design, at the expense of gameplay and storytelling. While it is visually stunning and a technical marvel, the game failed to evolve in ways that many expected. Hellblade 2 felt more like an interactive movie, with much of the game revolving around walking, solving simple puzzles, and fighting in limited combat encounters. The combat, in particular, felt pared back, lacking the complexity and dynamics found in the first game. Instead of engaging, varied encounters, players primarily face single enemies in confined spaces, reducing the sense of challenge.
The story also received criticism for being shallow and disjointed. Though Hellblade 2 attempted to explore meaningful themes, such as trauma, mental illness, and cycles of violence, these concepts were not as impactful or well-developed as they were in Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. The narrative felt muddled, repetitive, and often undermined by simplistic dialogue and overbearing voices. This detracted from the introspective and emotional depth that made the first game so beloved.
Ultimately, the game’s prioritization of visual fidelity over meaningful gameplay and storytelling left many feeling that Hellblade 2 missed the mark. Despite being a visually impressive showcase, it lacked the emotional and interactive depth that fans had hoped for, making the experience feel shallow and unsatisfying. This focus on aesthetics over substance caused the game to fall short of expectations, leaving players wanting more in terms of engagement and narrative progression.
4. Star Wars Outlaws (Metacritic 75)
Star Wars Outlaws was expected to be a hit, given its open-world design and the massive Star Wars franchise backing it. However, the game has underperformed, selling a million copies since its release, which is still significantly better than Skull & Bones. Several key factors contributed to its lukewarm reception and lackluster sales.
First, Outlaws struggled to stand out in a saturated market. Ubisoft, once known for revolutionizing open-world games, has seen its formula grow stale over the years. The game’s release came at a time when Ubisoft’s reputation was already in decline, plagued by repetitive gameplay mechanics and a lack of innovation across their titles. Although Outlaws was marketed as the first open-world Star Wars game, many players felt it didn't offer enough new experiences. The game felt too similar to previous Star Wars titles, and the 'open-world' aspect didn't feel as novel when compared to other games with similar mechanics, like Jedi: Fallen Order.
A major issue was the lack of a compelling narrative or strong protagonist. The main character, Kay Vess, was criticized for being bland and directionless. Her lack of personal growth or unique character development made it difficult for players to connect with her journey, which left the overall story feeling unengaging. The supporting cast, although filled with quirky characters like the adorable sidekick Nix, didn’t offer enough to elevate the story or provide a sense of depth. As a result, the game lacked the emotional weight and memorable character arcs seen in other Star Wars games like Jedi: Fallen Order or Knights of the Old Republic.
The gameplay, while solid, also failed to impress. The stealth and combat systems were functional but lacked the complexity or rewarding challenge seen in better action-adventure games. For instance, stealth missions were easy to bypass due to weak AI, and the combat system, though responsive, felt repetitive and uninspired. While the game did feature space combat, many found it clunky and unexciting, with poorly executed mechanics that hindered the overall experience. These issues led to a gameplay loop that, while competent, failed to capture the thrill or immersion fans expected from a Star Wars game.
Additionally, Outlaws suffered from technical performance issues. Players encountered frequent frame drops, texture bugs, and overall performance dips, especially on higher-end systems. These issues, compounded by a lack of polish, further detracted from the player experience, leaving many feeling the game was rushed to market without sufficient refinement.
Star Wars Outlaws underperformed due to its lack of innovation, a weak protagonist, repetitive gameplay, and technical issues. While the game had moments of brilliance, particularly in its sound design and environmental visuals, it didn’t do enough to stand out in a crowded market. Ubisoft’s reliance on a tired open-world formula and failure to deliver a memorable narrative doomed Outlaws to be a forgettable entry in the Star Wars gaming universe.
5. Concord (Metacritic 62)
Concord, a live-service hero shooter developed by Firewalk Studios and published by PlayStation, is widely regarded as a significant commercial failure. Despite an extensive development period of eight years and a budget exceeding an allegeed $400 million, Concord launched to an alarmingly low player count of just 697 at its peak on Steam. This dismal performance is even more shocking considering the game's veteran development team, which included former Bungie and Activision talent.
One of the core reasons for Concord's failure lies in its timing. Development began around 2016, with the aim of competing against Overwatch. However, by the time Concord released, the hero shooter genre had already matured, with major competitors like Apex Legends and Overwatch 2 dominating the space. Concord’s eight-year development cycle meant that it arrived too late to capitalize on the hero shooter trend, and its gameplay and design failed to bring anything innovative to the table. The game’s $40 price tag, in a market where most live-service games are free-to-play, further alienated potential players. This pricing misstep, combined with a lack of standout features, led to poor sales, estimated at only 25,000 units, recovering less than 1% of its development costs.
In addition to its untimely release, Concord struggled with poor marketing. Despite being featured in PlayStation’s promotional showcases and even having plans for an animated spin-off series, the game failed to generate excitement or anticipation among the gaming community. Its trailers and gameplay demonstrations were uninspiring, with many criticizing the bland art style and unappealing character designs.
Finally, the broader issue of Concord's failure is emblematic of the challenges facing modern AAA game development. Lengthy development cycles and rising player expectations for cutting-edge graphics and expansive worlds have made it harder for studios to predict what will succeed when their game finally launches. In Concord's case, this resulted in a polished, but ultimately stale, product that lacked the innovation and excitement needed to attract and retain players.
Despite the developer's efforts to acknowledge feedback and offer refunds, Concord was unable to recover from its disastrous launch, shutting down just two weeks after release.
What’s next?
These flops serve as stark reminders that innovation, player engagement, and polished execution are just as crucial as big budgets and recognizable franchises. As developers push boundaries, the risks of missing the mark grow, leaving both studios and players grappling with disappointment. However, these failures also highlight opportunities for growth, as studios can learn from their missteps and pivot toward more successful ventures in the future.

1. Installing GitHub Copilot
To use GitHub Copilot, you’ll need Visual Studio Code (VS Code), one of the most popular Integrated Development Environments (IDEs). Copilot is available as a VS Code extension, and installation is straightforward:
Open VS Code: Navigate to the Extensions view by clicking on the square icon in the sidebar or pressing Ctrl+Shift+X.
Search for "GitHub Copilot": Once you find the extension, click Install to add it to your VS Code.
To activate Copilot, you’ll need a GitHub account with access to either a free trial or a subscription plan. After installation, you’ll be prompted to log in or sign up for GitHub Copilot, and once authenticated, the extension will be ready to use.
2. Configuration Tips for Personalization
After setting up, take a moment to configure Copilot to align with your coding style and needs and maximize the tool’s potential:
* Toggle suggestions: You can control when Copilot provides suggestions. For example, you might want it to show suggestions only for certain programming languages. Head to the Copilot settings in VS Code to toggle these options on or off.
* Adjust keybindings: If you find Copilot’s keyboard shortcuts for accepting or rejecting suggestions don’t quite work with your coding habits, customize them to better fit your workflow. Navigate to VS Code’s keybindings settings and modify Copilot's shortcuts for a smoother experience.
* Adjust preferences for code blocks and comments: If you prefer receiving suggestions for longer code blocks or for particular comment prompts, you can adjust how Copilot responds based on the context you give it. This allows you to steer the AI towards providing suggestions that are most helpful for your coding style.
3. Supported Languages and Environments
GitHub Copilot is designed to support a wide variety of programming languages and environments. While it works best with languages like JavaScript, Python, TypeScript, Ruby, and Go, its capabilities are constantly expanding. While it’s optimized for use in VS Code, it continues to extend support to other editors and IDEs.
Once you have Copilot installed and configured, you’re ready to start coding more effectively. The real power of GitHub Copilot lies in how you use it to complement your coding style, which we’ll explore next.
Best Practices for Using GitHub Copilot Effectively
To make the most of GitHub Copilot, it's essential to use it strategically. These best practices will help you get more accurate suggestions, improve your workflow, and ensure the AI complements your coding style.
1. Using GitHub Copilot for Code Suggestions
GitHub Copilot is designed to assist you by suggesting code snippets, autocompleting lines, and even creating entire functions based on your needs. A practical tip for prompting accurate suggestions is to write clear and context-rich comments before you start coding. For example, typing a comment like // create a function to filter out invalid email addresses will give Copilot context to offer a suitable function outline. The more specific and descriptive your comments are, the better Copilot will be at generating helpful suggestions.
You can also use Copilot to speed up repetitive coding tasks. For instance, it can automatically generate code for data structure manipulations, error handling, and boilerplate logic, freeing up time for you to focus on more complex coding challenges.
2. Refining AI-Generated Code
While GitHub Copilot is powerful, it’s not perfect—you should still review and refine its suggestions. Always check the AI-generated code for:
* Correctness: Verify that the code does what you intend and test it in your environment.
* Security: Be cautious of security flaws, especially when handling user input or sensitive data.
* Adherence to guidelines: Ensure the code aligns with your project’s style guide and coding standards. A consistent approach helps maintain readability and reduces errors.
3. Shortcuts and Time-Saving Techniques
Efficiency is key when using GitHub Copilot, and there are several shortcuts to maximize your productivity:
* Accepting suggestions: Use Tab to accept a suggestion quickly. This keeps your workflow smooth without having to break from typing.
* Cycling through suggestions: If Copilot provides multiple suggestions, press Alt + ] to navigate to the next suggestion and Alt + [ to go back. This allows you to find the best fit for your context.
* Manually triggering suggestions: If you need to bring up suggestions at any time, press Ctrl + Enter to see what Copilot can offer. This is especially useful if you're stuck or want to explore alternative approaches to a problem.
Integrating GitHub Copilot into Your Workflow
GitHub Copilot works best when it naturally integrates into your coding workflow, supporting your coding style rather than dictating it. Here are some tips on how to blend Copilot seamlessly into your day-to-day development.
1. Complementing Your Coding Style
One of the key advantages of GitHub Copilot is its ability to adapt to different coding styles. It’s important to let Copilot enhance your workflow without feeling like you're giving up control. If Copilot makes suggestions that work with your style, it’s a great way to validate your approach. If not, use it as an opportunity to refine the code manually, letting Copilot support your unique preferences.
2. Balancing Copilot and Manual Coding
While GitHub Copilot can assist in coding, it’s still important to know when to lean on its suggestions and when to write code manually. Use Copilot to handle:
Boilerplate and repetitive code: Let Copilot automate the repetitive parts of your code, like structuring loops or setting up basic functions.
Generating quick prototypes: When you need a quick draft or exploratory code, let Copilot do the heavy lifting so you can iterate quickly.
On the other hand, consider writing code manually when:
Implementing core logic: For critical business logic or sensitive parts of your application, manual coding ensures the solution is tailored and precise.
Learning new concepts: If you're exploring a new framework or language, writing code yourself helps reinforce your learning.
Ultimately, remember that Copilot is a helper, not a replacement. Balancing its suggestions with your expertise allows you to maintain control while still benefiting from its capabilities.
3. Enhancing Collaboration with Copilot Chat
For teams working on shared codebases, GitHub Copilot Chat can be a game changer. Copilot Chat acts as an AI-based conversational assistant that helps developers understand code context, offer real-time suggestions, and even debug issues through chat. It can improve collaboration by:
Providing code context: When you're working on a file someone else wrote, you can ask Copilot Chat to explain what certain functions or variables do, speeding up the onboarding process.
Enhancing code reviews: Copilot Chat can suggest alternative approaches during code reviews, providing additional perspectives on how to improve code quality or optimize performance.
By integrating Copilot into your existing development practices, you can streamline workflows, enhance collaboration, and ultimately become a more efficient coder.
Boosting Performance and Getting Started with GitHub Copilot
To get the most out of GitHub Copilot, having a capable device is crucial. Running Copilot efficiently alongside development tools requires reliable performance to ensure quick suggestions and a smooth workflow. A laptop like the Acer Swift X 14 provides the processing power and speed necessary to keep up with intensive coding sessions, letting you focus on creating and refining code without interruptions.

5 Best SCP Games to Play in 2024
The SCP Foundation has long been a source of fascination for fans of horror, mystery, and the unknown. Its universe of anomalous objects, creatures, and phenomena that defy explanation has inspired countless creative projects, with video games being one of the most prominent. These games allow players to step into the role of researchers, survivors, or even SCP entities themselves, experiencing the chilling unpredictability of a world where reality is not always as it seems. In 2024, there are several standout titles that offer unique interpretations of the SCP universe, blending horror, survival, and action. Here are five of the best SCP games to dive into this year.
What is the SCP Foundation?
The SCP Foundation is a fictional organization responsible for securing, containing, and protecting anomalous objects, entities, and phenomena that pose a threat to humanity or challenge our understanding of reality. These anomalies, known as SCPs, range from dangerous monsters to mysterious artifacts with inexplicable powers. Examples include:
* SCP-173: A statue that moves rapidly and lethally when not observed, requiring constant surveillance to prevent attacks.
* SCP-096: A humanoid entity that becomes uncontrollably aggressive when someone views its face, pursuing the viewer until they are eliminated.
* SCP-3008: An abandoned IKEA store that leads to a seemingly infinite labyrinth where people are trapped and pursued by faceless humanoids, especially when the lights are off.
Each SCP is given a designation and a unique file detailing its properties, containment procedures, and potential risks. This collaborative storytelling project has grown into a vast, ever-expanding universe with contributions from writers, artists, and game developers alike.
1. SCP: Containment Breach
SCP: Containment Breach is one of the earliest and most successful adaptations of the SCP universe into gaming. Originally released in 2012, it captured the tension and mystery of a facility overrun by dangerous anomalies. Featuring iconic SCPs like SCP-173, a statue that only moves when unobserved, and SCP-106, a Keter class monster that can phases through walls, the game keeps players on edge through strategic survival mechanics, such as the blinking feature that forces players to look away at crucial moments.
While the Unity remake was ultimately canceled, a remastered version is now available on Steam, offering updated visuals and mechanics that enhance the original’s gameplay. This remastered edition brings back the eerie atmosphere of the game while improving its overall presentation. It’s a welcome addition for both new players and long-time fans who want to revisit the classic horror experience with modern updates.
Despite its rough edges compared to bigger-budget horror games, Containment Breach continues to engage players with its randomly generated facility, unpredictable SCP encounters, and exploration-based horror. It remains a standout in the SCP gaming world, and the remastered version gives it a fresh life for today's audience.
2. SCP: Secret Laboratory
SCP: Secret Laboratory, originally released in 2017, is an online multiplayer game set in the SCP universe, blending horror, survival, and team-based elements. Over time, it has evolved to become a well-rounded game that prioritizes player agency, where individual decisions significantly affect outcomes.
The core gameplay features SCP breaches, with participants assuming roles as either SCP anomalies or human factions. The unpredictability of player actions keeps the experience fresh, making each match feel distinct. Strategic thinking, teamwork, and sometimes deception are critical as players navigate tense situations.
Despite its strengths, Secret Laboratory does have some drawbacks. Toxic player lobbies and occasional balancing issues, especially in certain inescapable scenarios, can disrupt the experience. Some older assets remain from its earlier iterations, which can feel dated compared to the more polished updates. However, the developers continue to release updates and patches, reflecting their commitment to the community.
Overall, Secret Laboratory stands out for its immersive multiplayer experience, where the SCP universe serves as a dynamic backdrop for player-driven storytelling. It remains a solid option for fans of survival horror looking for a game driven by strategic, unpredictable player interaction.
3. SCP: 5k
SCP: 5K is a tactical horror shooter released in Early Access on Steam in February 2022, initially called SCP: Pandemic. Developed by Afrey Interactive, the game takes a different approach compared to fast-paced shooters like Doom or World War Z, offering a more methodical and immersive experience.
With a focus on realism, the game’s atmosphere and gunplay are highly polished, making it appealing for players who enjoy milsim-style shooters. The cooperative gameplay is best experienced with friends, supporting up to four players in the main missions and eight in some modes. There's also a PVP mode for up to 14 players, which adds variety.
Currently, SCP: 5K offers two main missions that take around three hours to complete, but they are replayable due to the engaging enemy encounters and weapon mechanics. The game also features a wide range of weapons, including pistols, assault rifles, and shotguns, all customizable with different attachments.
While the game is still in Early Access with room to grow, the developers frequently release updates and add new content. For those interested in tactical shooters or the SCP universe, SCP: 5K offers an intriguing experience, even at this stage.
4. SCP: Fragmented Minds
SCP: Fragmented Minds offers an exciting and immersive experience that promises to capture the essence of the SCP universe. The game has undergone extensive development since its demo, with improvements to nearly every aspect of gameplay, ensuring a polished and thrilling experience for players. The developers have not only upgraded the models of iconic SCPs like 682 and 966, but they’ve also introduced new variants such as SCP 3199 Elder and Baby, which adds variety and challenge to encounters. These creatures each have unique abilities that force you to adapt your strategies, making the game feel unpredictable, just like the SCP lore.
The game also features a vast range of environments, from the eerie Site 113 to Martian caves, bringing a detailed and atmospheric world to life. Whether you’re exploring dark corridors or trying to outwit deadly anomalies, the game’s dynamic AI and reworked stealth mechanics will push you to think critically about how you approach each situation.
The combat and movement systems have been completely overhauled, with fluid melee attacks, dodge mechanics, and even hacking systems that allow for more strategic gameplay. You’ll have access to tools like the welder, which can shock enemies or manipulate power systems, deepening your interaction with the environment.
With the devs gearing up for Early Access in late 2024 to early 2025, this game is shaping up to be the most ambitious SCP title yet, blending action, survival horror, and intense SCP encounters. For those who want an early taste of the game, you can wishlist SCP: Fragmented Minds on Steam and play the demo.
5. SCP: Blackout
SCP: Blackout was originally developed as a non-VR horror game, with VR support added later, expanding its immersive potential. Set within a secure facility teeming with escaped anomalies, the game taps into the eerie unpredictability that fans of SCP lore will appreciate. However, SCP: Blackout has a mixed legacy.
Originally released in 2019, the game still gives off an incomplete feeling, with some modes labeled "under construction" even years later. The absence of a fully realized story mode, which is still being worked on, might disappoint players expecting a more polished narrative experience. Instead, most of the gameplay focuses on survival mode, which, while tense, can feel rough around the edges.
One of the game’s standout features is its expansive and well-detailed environment, which draws you into the unsettling SCP facility. However, performance issues, especially in VR, detract from the immersion. Glitches like disappearing menus or erratic sound effects during certain encounters can interrupt the flow. Some SCPs feel a bit underwhelming compared to more iconic characters from the SCP universe, making the horror hit-or-miss at times.
Despite its flaws, SCP: Blackout remains an intriguing title for those who enjoy the SCP mythos. The potential for atmospheric tension and surprising moments is there, and the game provides a glimpse into a vast, dangerous world. If you're willing to overlook some jank and are a fan of psychological horror, it’s still worth exploring—whether you choose to play in VR or not.
Secure, Contain, Protect
The SCP universe offers a rich and immersive backdrop for horror gaming, and 2024 continues to deliver exceptional experiences for fans of the genre. Whether you're drawn to classic titles like SCP: Containment Breach or looking forward to ambitious projects like SCP: Fragmented Minds, there's a game for every type of player. From tactical shooters to multiplayer survival and intense horror encounters, the SCP games on this list showcase the creativity and versatility of the community. For those looking to dive deeper into the lore of SCP anomalies, Dr Bob and SCP Explained - Story & Animation’s YouTube channel is a fantastic resource, offering engaging and well-animated videos that explore the mysteries of these anomalous entities.
