Swift SF114-34 laptop - best way for audio input

I have just bought a Swift SF114-34 laptop to use to record church services.  We have a mixer desk for microphone and other audio inputs which we connected via a mini jack to the microphone socket on our old Samsung laptop.  The new laptop does not have a microphone socket, only a headphone socket.  I rang Acer Technical to ask how to connect for audio input and was advised to use the headphone socket which can act as both.  I tried this today but the sound quality is quite poor.  Is there another / better way to connect this laptop to an audio mixing desk ?

@wfolk when you connect the audio jack, it should show a notification for choosing the analog type.

Thank you and have a nice day!

I will check this but when I connected to the headphone socket, there was no dialog box.

You can also use a USB microphone as input. Check in Sound Setting to see which mic is selected. It might be defaulting to an array, which mixes your good mic with the mic on the camera.
