GPU fan issues (Predator Helios 300 PH315-51)

Hello!

Apologies if this is an obvious answer to my question, but I'm having issues with my GPU fan. I did try and search into things and saw mixed answers about whether it might be power not going to the fan or it needs to be replaced, etc. My GPU fan on Predator Sense comes up as 0 RPM (even with a game running that makes the GPU run hot). When I start up my laptop, I do notice that the GPU fan does spin initially and then stops so I don't think it's an issue of power going to the fan.

I opened up the laptop and checked to see if it was the fan's plug and even cleaned out the fans to the best of my ability. The CPU fan is running fine and does spin normally, but the GPU fan seems to be a bit hard to gently spin with my fingers when I did look at them while the laptop was opened up. Would this indicate that there's an issue with the bearing on the fan? Is there any way for me to salvage the fan or possible get a replacement of the fan part because I would prefer to stick with the metal aeroblade fans if possible.

Thank you, any help is appreciated!

The best way to test the gpu fan is to try an external power supply and test it that way and if it spins 100%? Also, you can’t fix these fans and your symptoms are very much like a faulty bearing or an internal fault that restricts the blades from spinning 100% even though the fan gets power. Btw, a new gpu fan is not expensive and it’s a much better option as and if you play hard core games allot and use these fans on max rpm its always advisable to change them every 2 to 3 years as they do wear out and deteriorate in time especially with the heat that they are operating under.

Oh I see, thank you for your response! I have had this laptop for going on over 3 years now so it would make sense that it likely needs to be replaced outright. I unfortunately don't have any external power supply to test the fans and wouldn't know where to find something like that to test it, but I could try swapping the fan plugs to see if it's the port.

Would one of the plastic bladed fans from amazon be a good replacement for the stock fan in the laptop then? I wasn't sure if there was a way for me to get the exact fan anywhere and all the replacements I've found are plastic blades.

@hazelnut42 try to disassemble that fan blade by pulling the blade upward. Clean the fan bearing and add some grease or oil to it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTuNyfflFSo

I took a look at that video you linked and this fixed my issue! I didn't know you could take the blades out of the fan housing so seeing that it is possible to do I took it apart following the video and the GPU fan is spinning again properly, thank you so much!
