Hi everyone. I just bought the Swift X SFX14-41G and the battery drains completely overnight when not plugged in. The battery settings are default. When I check battery usage, I see 18hr screen on, 1 minute screen off, and sleep - and a linear drain from 100% at 8:00 pm to 7% at 8:00 am down to 0 (couldn't start it without it plugged in). How can I troubleshoot this issue? Thanks!

What do you have plugged into the USB ports, and which ports are they? It sounds like either the laptop isn't sleeping fully or you have a device that's being powered.

Nothing is plugged into the USB ports. I chatted with Microsoft support and their suggestion was to remove my battery devices from device manager and restart in order to reinstall the battery drivers. I believe that seemed to fix it.

I'm also having another issue, maybe related, I'll post here but might make a new thread. On two occasions I opened my screen after the computer was asleep, hit enter, I the backlight turns on on the keyboard but the screen is blank. Nothing I seem to do can get the screen to turn on and I need to shut it down and turn it back on again.
  • About the battery issue, check if feature is enabled in acer quick access:

About the problem with the display, check this bios version:

Thanks for the suggestions @egydiocoelho. I don't have Acer Quick Access installed. I did a fresh Windows install when I got the computer. I did check the bios version and I have the latest version of Panel ID.
  • In this case, install acer quick access and then enable and disable that function.

Chrome and Edge are both blocking the download as malicious. https://www.acer.com/ac/en/CA/content/software-windowstools

I don't see any issues with the download link with any of my browsers. What are you using for your antivirus? Does this direct link work?

Worked in Edge, not in Chrome. No antivirus other than Windows. I'll check that setting now and see.

I thought the problem had been solved by reinstalling the battery drivers. I left it overnight and it drained to 99%... but then I left it overnight last night and it drained completely again. This time, instead of the battery usage report showing 8 hours of screen on, it's showing 8 hours of screen off, but still no sleep. I have a USB dongle for a Razer mouse plugged in, aside from that, nothing changed. I'm thinking that I might have had the mouse turned off one night but not the other? But what would explain the difference between screen on vs. screen off? I also checked powercfg -requests and there's nothing that should be keeping it awak.

In any event, I'm installing quick access now and I'll test it again.

    Thanks everyone!

"Service 'Radio Management Service' (RMSvc) could not be stopped. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to stop system services."

Installation is stuck and can't go past this point.

I did a quick search on the forums for this but all I could find are older posts. They reference various changes to the registry or suggestions to rename various folders/files. I also found a post that suggests Quick Access will remove/stop/replace/modify the above service in some way that may lead to WiFi not functioning properly.

Gotta say, I really like this computer, but these early bugs are somewhat discouraging. Upgrading from a SF314-54-56L8 and that one didn't give me any issues. Not sure if this is a Windows problem or an Acer problem.

Thanks! That version works and I've disabled the "power off USB charging" setting. I'll test again this evening.

Last night I tried to manually put the device to sleep. I woke up again to 0% battery, but there's now a third version of what I'm seeing in the Power & Bettery menu... The battery level bars show 100% overnight right up to 8 am even though the battery level indicator showed 0% and I wasn't able to turn the device on without plugging it in. So, one night it fully drained and showed screen on for the entire time. One night it fully drained and showed screen off for the entire time. A third night it fully drained, the bars showed 100%, and there was a mix of screen on, screen off, and an hour of sleep. The inconsistency seems strange.

I'll check again this evening. Thanks for all your help!
  • Disconnect all devices from the usbs ports.

The problem persists. I checked the setting on Acer Quick Access and disconnected the USB dongle for the mouse. I manually put the device in sleep from the power menu last night. Battery completely drained this morning. Battery status screen shows full bars throughout, 1 hr 3 minutes sleep, 3 h 6 min screen off, 5 hr 48 min screen on.
  • Restart windows and shut down the computer through the bios:

Then check if the battery continues to drain.

Thanks, I will try that tonight.

There is now a third issue that I'm dealing with. The issue that I described above where opening the screen will turn on the backlit keyboard but not the screen and I won't be able to do anything without holding the power button and restarting continues to happen every few days.

Friday, I had another issue. My WiFi wouldn't find any networks so I ran the troubleshooter and during the troubleshooter I got a blue screen KMOD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED error that couldn't resolve itself. I had to boot in safe mode where I found that the MediaTek Wi-Fi 6 MT7921 network adaptor had some error and I had to uninstall it. I was able to restart and all was fine. That same blue screen error came up last night. I had to boot in safe mode, uninstall the driver, restart, and now it works fine.

These are 3 fairly significant issues. Are they related? Again, I really like this computer... did I get a lemon? I'm considering returning it and buying another. I'm still within the 90-day return at Costco, but I don't want to have to deal with these same issues again. Are these issues somehow related to hardware Are they issues with Windows? Are they issues with Acer? Are they completely independent?

It is possible they are related. The WiFi/Bluetooth module is a card installed in a slot on the motherboard. If it was having problems they could be such that they don't allow the system to fully shutdown which would make it stay connected to the network even after closing the computer. Staying connected to the network uses power since the radio is still active. Why don't you go ahead and start a warranty ticket with Acer support, they could replace the card and verify that is the issue... It's more likely to be the hardware than the driver IMHO, MediaTek doesn't seem to have done updates at their end to the drivers since the end of the year or so.

  • Does the issue also occur after disabling fast startup in power options?
