Shut down Windows normally. Unplug the charger. Insert paperclip into battery disconnect pinhole on bottom for about 30 seconds. Plug charger back in. Wait for battery charge LED to turn from steady orange to steady blue. Turn laptop back on.

Sorry. I don’t understand. Are you talking about the laptop charger?

    (1) Yes, unplug the laptop charger from laptop's charging jack
(2  Then insert paperclip into battery disconnect pinhole on bottom of the laptop (not the bottom of the charger), for about 30 seconds.
    (3) Then plug laptop charger back in to the laptop jack.
    (4) But wait for battery charge LED on the laptop to turn from steady orange to steady blue.
    (5) Then try to turn  laptop back on.

Hi Jack E.  I have tried this but the light remains amber. What do I do now?
     Thanks

Did you perhaps set up your router for wifi MAC address authentication?

My clever nephew in the US has just fixed my problem. No idea what he did! Thanks very much for your help.

Suspect the wireless router had the SSID (broadcast identifier) turned off and yours was the "hidden network".

It would be nice if perhaps you could find out or tell us what your clever nephew in the US suggested to you or did so others on this forum might benefit. Thanks.
