Distance or obstructions to the router.
If WI-FI has jacks for antennae then install.

Normally I lose about 30% within the same room.

Also other devices using the router at the same time within your household or neighboring stealing bandwidth.

Sounds like poor or no antennas as the TC-390 is 12 feet away from the router.
If wired in with cat 6 I get 930ish mbps.

Try your cell phone in the same location using Speed Smart or the same speed test that you're using now.
Does the computer have any jacks on the rear for an antennae ?

Yeah, it would help a lot if you told us what computer you have and what it's specs are. If you have an 802.11n card on the 2.4GHz channel, 300Mbps is really, really good. If you have an 802.11ax card on a 5GHz channel it's so so...

I have an Acer TC-390 UA92 with 802.11ac (Intel dual band wireless- AC 3168) on 5GHz.
    Your thoughts?

Thanks, that helps us a lot when trying to figure out what's going on. Which version of the drivers are running on your AC 3168? It looks like Intel released new ones last month...
