I love the design of the acer laptops and would rather not jump ship to another brand however, if every new laptop I get breaks at the left hinge after it's been a desk warmer for a year, that's a deal breaker for me. I considering upgrading from the swift SF314-42 to the new Aspire line (specifically this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Z11X58J?ascsubtag=s1644023565464w7kqa52402&tag=52402_iceleadscom-20&linkCode=osi&th=1 ) Do the hinges still break on these new models?

To add some more detail, I am referring to how the (usually) left hinge starts breaking and tearing the laptop apart of the bottom left corner of the screen.

Yes, It's sort of a proven fact that hinge problems persist in consumer-grade laptops when the lid is opened & closed too much.

When I google search the keywords 'hinge'  'problems' & 'acer', I'm disappointed at the huge number of hits I get.

But then when I do the same search with 'dell' or 'hp' or 'asus' or any other major consumer brands, I'm overwhelmed by the even 'huger' number of hits I get.

So gimme an ACER. And I promise to break my habit of excessively opening and closing the lid. :)

Fully agree with what JackE is saying, as this is a common problem with all laptops and the governing factor is how a consumer uses his laptop? All in all, I’ve had this problem with Acer and other laptops but and if you are computer savvy and this happens then replacing the lowercase is not a big problem (yes its tedious to replace all components but its doable) also the lowercase is pretty cheap to buy. Also and what I suggest is to never ever use that dreaded “Hot Glue” to try and repair hinge point breakages as it doesn’t work as many doggy tech repairs just pile this glue onto the hinge securing points and glue the hinge and the surrounding circuitries which is a doggy repair that can ruin your laptop if ever you need to repair like a power port that could be either on the right or left sides or othher components around the hinge area.

The issue is really a factor of the trend toward slimmer and slimmer laptops. There is just not enough depth in the case to use a long enough screw to stop it from pulling loose. It's a bit fiddly to fix and likely the fix won't last as long as the original, but it's quite doable without replacing case pieces. I've got several Acer laptops and have never seen the issue with any of mine, but then I pen them from the center of the scren instead of from the corner, so I'm not putting that much stress on the hinge.
