I have an old Aspire 7745-7949 running Linux Mint with 4GB of RAM currently installed. I'm wanting to upgrade the RAM but everywhere I look, online, it tells me that this machine has a maximum capacity of 8GB. However, if I run the appropriate command through the Linux terminal it confirms that I have 4GB installed, 2GB in each of two out of four slots and that the maximum capacity is 16GB. So, before I go out and buy four 4GB sticks I'd like to somehow confirm that this machine will, indeed, take a 16GB RAM upgrade.

Anyone?

The max DDR3 ram for the Acer Aspire 7745G memory with intel core i7 --------- is 16 gb according to Acer.

Do a Crucial System Scanner that will give you all the memory and SSD drive upgrades for your laptop that Crucial makes and is 100% correct for more up to date memory that will work with your laptop.

Thanks but Crucial System Scanner doesn't work with Linux... this is what Linux terminal (aka command prompt) tells me. Number of Devices = number of slots But everywhere I check, online, for this Acer model tells me that the maximum capacity is 8GB.

Check your exact CPU in Intel's ARK site. No matter the mainboard / the laptop, if your CPU can only handle 8GB RAM, it won't handle 16GB. Example: CPU i5-430M can work with maximum of 8GB RAM.
