I Have a Acer Swift 3 and am running HQPlayer as an audio player -It is very demanding on the CPU , so the laptop is running hot , resulting in throttling and the associated loss of performance. To over come this I am considering introducing an additional fan and connecting heat pipe - There is space as the SSD bay is empty. Power via a USB port. Has anybody done a similar mod and is there any issues I might encounter?

@MASTERPASSER there might be no exhaust vent for the second fan. You can try replacing the thermal paste or a laptop cooler.

Yes, I'd look closely at the air flow before getting into that type of mod...
