Swift 3 SF 313-53 - Battery Depletion While Being Turned Off for 3 Weeks

Hey guys, I hope you will be able to help me with the following issue.
I have bought a Swift 3 (SF 313-53) recently and I was surprised at how fast its battery went down while the device was off. I turned it off with a fully charged battery, kept it unused at room temperature for about 2-3 weeks and then that was it the battery was empty and I had to use the power cable to turn it on.
I should add that I followed the recommendations for the first 3-4 charge-uncharge cycles fairly accurately.
Not being very used to laptop battery issues, I'd like to know if that's normal for a new Li-Ion 56Wh battery. Especially, I'd like to avoid the hassle of sending it to the Acer shops if there's nothing wrong.

@Merryweather There is definitely something wrong there. The battery should last many many months - years without depletion if shutdown & disconnected.

I suspect you have some device(s) connected to the USB port(s) when shut down e.g. USB storage, speakers, headphones, monitor, etc. The USB ports can continue to deliver power even when the PC is shut down. I'm not sure about the SF313-53 but some BIOS settings allow the power-off charging feature to be disabled.

Less likely is that some services are running when in sleep mode. A slight power drain will occur in sleep mode although by default, the PC will go into hibernation after a while when sleeping. The power draw when sleeping shouldn't be enough to drain the battery after a few days but try hibernating or a complete shutdown when turning off the PC to see if that makes any difference.

Failing either of the above, I'd suspect a bad battery.

I have similar issue with my Acer Swift3 Laptop

With about 40 to 60% left on battery I power off (shut down) and there is no power the next morning.

However I can use computer from 100% down to zero if I don't shut down.

Is this a software issue or a battery issue

Any insight would be appreciated

When you say you can use the computer from 100% down to zero I hope you don't mean that literally. I assume you mean down to 5% before you get a warning then shutdown. Draining the battery too low can result in irreparable damage. You are probably better to set the low battery warning to say 30% for an improved battery life.

It could be either software or the battery at fault. Possible causes are:

- power being drawn from a USB port which can happen even when shutdown.

- power being used by software or drivers when in sleep mode or with 'Wake on Lan' being on although these wouldn't normally use enough power to deplete the battery overnight. You could try doing a full shutdown rather than sleep or hibernate to see if that makes a difference.

I did once have an issue with my SF314-57 where the keyboard backlight remained on after I had hibernated the laptop. It completely drained the battery overnight. No idea why this happened and it was a once off. I now make sure the backlight turns off before closing the lid.

Others have had similar issues e.g. see this thread SF314-53G-89D1 battery depletes completely when I turn it on — Acer Community. No resolution was found but it might give you some pointers on troubleshooting.
