I may be purchasing a new laptop in the near future and I was wondering if there is a laptop that has another ssd drive bay beside the one that comes with the laptop?

Yes, your can add the 2.5" HDD or SSD to the AN515-55-53E5. However, like other new 15" laptops, the DVD or optical disc drives are being phased out due to power, size & weight limitations. USB-connected DVDs and BluRay players and reader/writers are now available are much more practical. The USB optical disc drive have much more performance and much cheaper than the internal DVDs found in older laptops.

Easy??? 11 phillips head screws & base cover  must be removed to access the HDD & RAM  sockets. Seems easy to me. But for some folks maybe not so easy. =)

Nearly all the new Aspire5 laptops have one 2.5" SSD/HDD drivebay and one m.2  SSD drivebay. Some more expensive Predator gaming laptops have three or four drivebays.

My A317 shows a M.2 slot but is hidden. It came with a 2.5" HDD. I replaced with a SSD and performance is much improved.

    Hi @ zanelwalls
This, is the only way adding the second SSD would increase performance. Splitting the OS, and programs/data on seperate drives would decrease performance, as SAM indicated above, and waste the free space on the OS drive. Having a second drive for data is a viable idea for gaining capacity, not performance.

So, having two SSD, one for startup and programs and one for storage, isn’t a good idea?

Excellent idea. Some m.2 SSDs can be faster than 2.5" SSDs

Have been dividing disks into a program (C) and Data (D) partitions for years. Just have to create a recovery disk for major OS changes and use incremental backups for the data drive. Just buy one disk as big as both c and d together, the use partitions. Diskmgmt.msc will do this.

I understand that, but I have a 1tb drive installed in my current laptop, and I would like to take that drive and install it in a new laptop, to use as a storage drive and the drive that comes with the new laptop be the boot drive and program drive.

Most new A5s come from the factory with the m.2 SSD. So the 2.5" drivebay would be free to accept the 1TB HDD or SSD from your current laptop. But before you purchase an A5, you must tell us exactly what A5 you plan to purchase to be sure.

This is because there are many A5 models, For example, A515-54, A514-57, A515-58, A515-56G, A517-45, A517-57G, etc etc..... They all have different configurations but most have m.2 SSDs that could also accept your current 1TB.

But some do not. So to be sure, we'd have to know what you want to buy. Do you understand?

Yes I do, what about an Acer Nitro?  Does it also have an extra bay that allows for a SSD?  I've started looking at the Nitro, and I like what I see.  Would I also be able to take the RAM out of my current Acer and use it in the Nitro?  I updated my current Acer from 4g RAM to 16g RAM, DDR4.

There are also dozens of Aspire Nitro models with different configurations, SSD and RAM requirements. You have to pick at least one model that you're interested in the be sure you get the correct answer. We'd also have to know which ACER model you have now. It's hard for me to guess what you have and what you are looking at since there are hundred of ACER laptop models.

Aspire ES 15, I upgraded its RAM in 2020 from 4 gto 16 g, and it’s std 1 t HDD to a 1 t SSD also In 2020.  As I said before, I would like to be able to install my SSD as a data drive and use the SSD that comes with the laptop as the boot drive and program drive.  I would also like to be able to use some of the RAM that I bought to upgrade my current laptop to upgrade my new one.  I think that’s everything, if u need anything else, just let me know.

Sorry. Please understand there are also dozens of ES 15 models. I cannot guess which one you have? For example. ES1-533? Or ES1-123? Or ES1-433? Or ES1-522?

I also don't know which Nitro model you're interested in. There are dozens of Nitro models. For example, AN515-22?, AN517-56? AN515-44? AN517-33?

They are all configured and priced differently. I need to know the full model number what you're looking at buying and what price range you want. I can't guess these things

The ES1-572-31KW 2.5" HDD or SSD probably can be used in most but not all new ACER Nitro models. You have to tell me which Nitro model you're interested in to be sure. There are dozens of Nitro laptops to choose from. So I can't guiess which Nitro models you're most interested in. You haven't told me this yet.

Unfortunately, the ES1-572-31KW DDR3L RAM modules are totally incompatible with all new ACER models since they use DDR4 modules. They cannot be adapted.

I looked at the specs a little better and the RAM will not work that I have, but I still would like to install the SSD 1 t that I have to install in the Acer Nitro 5.  The model that I am interested in is the AN515-55-53E5.  I have noticed that I couldn't locate a DVD player.  Does this model not have a DVD player?

I have one more question, how easy is it to install a second SSD and to replace or install new RAM?

    Thanks,
