I purchased a travelmate TMB 114-21, without HDD or eMMC.  I installed both, the eMMC chip new and the HDD w/ win10 from a lenovo unit.   Battery charges fine.  Pressing power button gives a blue light and a faint POST beep, then the HDD spinning, but black screen.  External monitor shows -no signal-.  I swapped out the memory chip, same result.   Black screen when f2 is pressed.   Any hope?

Doesn't sound good. The TravelMate B114-21 has some detailed post codes it generates during POST, but you pretty much have to have the display up. If you haven't already try the full battery reset: disconnect everything, especially power. Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds then release and wait long enough for a leisurely cup of coffee (15-30 minutes if you aren't a coffee drinker. :)) then plug only the charger back in. Wait for the full battery indication and go ahead with your normal startup. I the issue has to do with battery being confused enough to shut the system down after POST, that might clear it up. I'm a bit afraid that even that won't work fully, since it sounds like the GPU is down. I assume you tried an external monitor on both the HDMI and VGA ports?

Thanks for the input.  Haven't tried HDMI.   Have done battery reset, per your instructions other posts.   Will try again tho.  So,  unplug the battery after 30min wait?  then try with just charger?   I'll see if the monitor accepts HDMI too.

Unplug the charger before starting, the reset button basically just unplugs the battery, so no need to open it up.
