Nitro N50-610 Can I upgrade my PC’s GPU to a Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060?

Hi. My Acer Nitro N50-610 (currently running on a GTX 1660 Super) hasn’t been running certain games as well as I want them to. I was looking into upgrading my graphics card for the sake of improving performance, and also being able to run new RTX titles. I have searched up countless questions about the compatibility between the two, and haven’t gotten a direct answer, hence why I am asking here. Is my Acer Nitro N50-610 compatible with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Graphics card, and if so, should I upgrade or not? Thanks in advance.

Yes if your model has the 500watt supply. FPS performance of RTX is only ~5% better in most games. But uses nearly 30% more power. It might have slightly better benchmarks in some other areas. But IMO underwhelmingly so over what you already have in there. I know nothing about the new RTX titles so I guess you should base your decision on how much you gotta have those. :)

In what ways relative the GTX? Others might benefit from your experience with it.

i never did do any proper benchmarking, but from general performance tests this is what i gathered:

on the pc, i picked a 2.5 slot card for it. because of the clearance between the hard drive slots, psu, and card itself, there was a noticeable boost in temperatures. i’m talking 50c idle, which was pretty bad until i realized on idle i didn't have the fans on, as opposed to the 1650, which most of the time did have the fans on, even in idle. after getting that sorted, i still saw the same relative temps playing all the other games, maxing out at the same amount it normally would, which in my case was 75c. this was with the most gpu intensive games however, so if that does sound bad, thats why. the performance was exceptionally good, and surpassed where i expected for a couple games. there are youtubers out there like dawid does tech stuff who actually upgraded an older version of the systems to similar specs that i have, and since he actually knows what the hell he’s doing, i’d recommend his benchmarks since they were actually ran properly. i noticed a bump in performance for most games at around 30-50 fps on average, the most notable of which was gta 5, which had 120-60 fps averages (only 60 at its very lowest, and for very short time periods.). there were loads of other games i tried, but i never had a strong enough comparison to actually solidly say if there was an improvement, but overall, most games could be pushed to much higher settings than before and still have that 30-50 fps increase previously mentioned. after that incoherent ramble of a review, i’ll come to my general opinion on the card, in the system at least. is it a good upgrade?

hell no. i was lucky enough to find this gpu at a 500 dollar price point, right at retail price, which was pretty lucky. with the average price however (in CAD), it can hover around 800-900 dollars, and thats not even including taxes. its probably a better idea to get a more simple upgrade, like something still in the gtx series. and, before i conclude, one good thing to mention is that you should NOT buy this card for rtx. i tested out two of the only rtx compatible games i actually had installed, quake 2 and minecraft, and the performance i got was to be expected. quake 2 ran from 50-60 fps and minecraft hovered at 40-20. minecraft is pretty horribly optimized anyway, but still, if you want a card for rtx, the 2070 and 2080 will stand a better chance in general

making a VERY long story short, the card gave a noticeable performance improvement in most games, but for the average price point and the actual features, its kind of unnecessary to get such a major upgrade. if general gpu prices stay the same for a bit, its a pretty good deal, and i honestly would recommend it. but the way gpu prices go, i think we all know that wont last very long. also i’m kinda stupid when it comes to the pc world atm, so take everything i say with a grain of salt.

Thanks for the review!!! Nicely written. Should be helpful to others considering similar upgrades.  :)
