Hello, what steps do I need to do before installing  a larger ssd . Running windows 11 and I backed up pc but after I installed the new ssd it's not recognizing any hard drive on boot. If someone could direct me to the proper way of backing up and to where. That would be appreciated   thanks

I don't know what model type drive your new SSD is, give more details? If its a Samsung then Samsung has the Data Migration for cloning that is a very good and simple software to do a clone onto a new SSD as a boot drive. There are a few variables to adding a new SSD drive for either a slave or a boot drive:

    • If you are using the new SSD as a slave drive then install new SSD and go to "Disk Management > Actions> and do a Refresh or Rescan Disks to recognise your new SSD then format the new SSD to MBR/Legacy for a slave drive
    • If the new SSD is a boot drive? You can clone your old boot drive to the new drive with a software (and use the oldboot drive as a slave?) with a software like Macrium Reflect 8 Free Version and do a clone of your existing Win-11 that you have as it should work 100%.

Otherwise and if you want to start from the beginning with the new bigger SSD drive as a boot drive and Win-11? First backup your personal data (make sure you backup all your valuable data) as the best with the new Win-11 is to do a "Clean Install and Compete Format" of the new drive, don't upgrade from Win-10 to Win-11 do a complete format of your new SSD drive by downloading at the Microsoft site Download Windows 11 Create Windows 11 Installation Media onto an 8GB USB and follow MS's installation guides as then your new SSD will work 100%.

My old ssd is the c drive which I'm guessing has windows on it. Sorry, I'm not a regular at this sort of thing but can work things out with a bit of direction
