Aspire Randomly Overheating?

I don’t know if anyone else is having this issue, and it pretty much never happens when my laptop is plugged in, but left on battery power, I can’t leave my laptop alone for longer than 20 minutes without it getting extremely hot and shutting down, the battery instantly draining and leaving me to have to wait sometimes several hours until I can turn it on again. This happens regardless of what I have open and even if I don’t have anything open at all, and happens despite my computer supposedly supposed to go to sleep after 10 minutes. Does anyone know what this is and how to fix it? I’ve only had this laptop for about 4 months.

Open Control Panel. Search 'power plan' Click 'edit power plan' in left pane. Click 'change advanced power settings' In the box that pops up scroll down and click on processor power mgt. Try reducing max processor state on battery and plugged in.

Overheating and battery drain issues during sleep mode are frequently caused by Connected Standby. When enabled, the fans spin down in sleep mode, but the processors continue working. Not only does that cause overheating, but overheating causes inefficiency, which in turn results in fast battery drain.

If your computer is entering sleep mode after 10 minutes and the problem occurs after that, Connected Standby is probably at fault. If your computer is not entering sleep mode when it should, the problem is somewhere else. To disable Connected Standby while on battery power, open a Command Prompt and enter the following:

    powercfg /setdcvalueindex scheme_current sub_none F15576E8-98B7-4186-B944-EAFA664402D9 0

    (1) Please describe the throttling behavior these temperatures are causing?
    (2) What applications are showing this throttling behavior that you described?

Of course disabling the discrete GPU reduces power draw and video gaming performance. What did you expect to happen?
