Hi not a very tech person question.

I purchased a Acer Nitro N50-600 desktop in 2019
Specs:
 Intel Core i7-8700
16GB DDR4 SDRAM
256GB SSD + 1TB HDD
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB)

My question is if it is possible to upgrade the graphics card to a 3060ti if I was to upgrade the power supply? and anything else needed (please specify what else I would need to do on order for it to work) or is it not possible on this system?

Thank you in advance.

    Hi @Gongoozler,

The GTX 1660Ti is the maximum upgrade GPU that your mainboard can handle on the N50 600 EB1A, don't update to a higher spec GPU as it will not work. The GTX 1660Ti recommended system power is 450W and your OEM PSU is 500W.

I had seen that recommendation but question it. A I see it the mother board limitation is the PCIe 16x Gen 3 interface. The only other limitation I know of is the power supply, which can be upgraded. Is there some other technical limitation I don’t know about?

Any GPU upgrade on a desktop depends firstly on its PCIe port specs as your N50-600 desktop has a PCIe 3.0 x16 and the RTX-3060ti is a PCIe 4 x16 type card and will not give you the full performance of the RTX-3060ti card speeds, as this card in a compatible mobo has only a 28% better performance to what the OEM Acer top GPU the RTX-2070 Acer part #: DA.20711.001 will give you. as fitting a Ferrari engine in an old jalopy chassis will not make the jalopy into a Ferrari😀

Note: the N50-600 OEM PSU’s will not power the RTX-3060ti (min Suggested PSU of 550W and Bus Interface of PCIe 4.0 x16)

The OEM N50-600 PSU is a 24-pin ATX power connector and an ATX_12V Auxiliary 4-pin power connector for the GPU. These are the OEM N50-600 PSU's :

    1. 300W 100-127/220-240V~6/3A (part#: DC.30018.008) or a
    2. 500W 100-127/220-240V~10/5A 50-60Hz (part #: DC.5001B.004)

Acer OEM RTX-2070 fitted to the N50-600

Thank you for your input. If I understand you correctly, I could upgrade up to an RTX 2070 video card, which is consistent with the research I’ve done. I am considering an MSI RTX 2060 because of the price, availability and the fact that it has 12 Gb of vram. I use Steam VR which has a significant memory overhead.

BTW: my desktop has the 500 watt power supply, but I may upgrade that too. I just have to watch the physical dimensions because not all ATX psu’s will fit.

    thanks again for your input.
