I've been getting conflicting information about the number of HDD bays in my laptop. Does it come from the factory with the .5TB SSD in one bay and has a second bay unoccupied, or is there only one drive bay?

Try Windows + x  using keyboard on desktop screen or click on the yellow box on the taskbar
    It will open file explorer
click on "This pc " on the left side
It will show you different drives on the right side

You will see the size of the hdd for Acer C  ( Like 300 gb free of 500 gb )
You will see different drives present on your computer with the size free and total size..

    Turn of the computer.
Tap f2 while turning on the computer
    It will go to bios
    on the info menu
it will show hdd0 and hdd1 details with the vendor name of hdd and serial number ..

To check the compatibility of ram which you can use on your computer.. Get CPUz and check it with that in SPD section of all the RAM and specs that you have, its a quick and simple way to check all OEM specs and what you have in your system.

If you already haven't bought it, you need to check with the retailer, if it's advertised 512GB, it may have one single 512GB M.2 SSD and a another spare slot for M.2 SSD, it also comes with 256GB M.2 SSD and a free slot, so it's difficult for us to determine the configuration of your model.
