Aspire E1-572 6802 Slow To Boot / Monitor Not Turning On / No Boot / Tried Flashing EPROM

Greetings.

Let me start by saying that this is not my first rodeo, but it is my first attempt at manually flashing a BIOS via the EPROM.

I received an Aspire E1-572 from a friend who asked me to wipe the drive and install a fresh copy of Windows 10. When I received the notebook it was in standby mode and working. I plugged in the AC adapter (correct voltage and amperage for the unit) and fiddled with the OS for a bit to make sure everything was okay. I then powered down the unit, disconnected the AC adapter, removed the battery, and removed the hard drive to make a clone onto my workstation computer (a safety precaution in case the owner ever says "hey, did you save my pictures by any chance?"). After wiping the drive I reinstalled it and inserted a USB flash drive with Windows 10 installation media. I plugged in the battery, plugged in the AC, and started the unit. It powered on and the hard drive light started blinking, but there was no image. No blinking cursor. Nothing. I waited about 5 minutes and nothing happened. I powered the unit down, removed the battery, and drained any residual power. I plugged everything in and powered it back on. The blue power light came on, hard drive lights came on, but again, no image.

Out of frustration, I began tapping every key I could think of and eventually the ACER splash screen appeared, then disappeared. Then a scrambled ACER splash screen appeared, disappeared, and then the Windows 10 installation media kicked in. I was able to install Windows 10 without any issue. It reached the end of the installation and told me it would restart several times to finish. That was the last time I ever saw an image on that screen. It restarted and I never saw anything again. So I know the screen is fine. I know the cable is fine. I was pretty sure the BIOS was screwed.

ACER only releases their BIOS in an EXE file, so I had to watch a few videos on how to extract the BIN file and convert it to an FD file that the BIOS could read by performing a manual recovery. I followed every step (create bootable flash drive via diskpart, hold FN key and ESC while plugging in the AC / no battery, press power, wait). The fans spun up like it was performing a BIOS flash, but it never shut down again like it did in the video. I tried this a dozen more times with a dozen different FD files. Nothing.

I went ahead and ordered a CH341A programmer and taught myself how to REALLY manually flash a BIOS. I completely removed the MOBO, connected the clip to the EPROM, installed the drivers and the software onto my PC, and was able to read the chip (EN25Q64). I used the software to erase the chip and received no errors. I then verified that the chip was blank. I found a version 2.14 BIOS online as a BIN file and installed it to the chip with zero errors. I verified the chip again and received no errors. I put the machine completely back together and turned it on. Same problem. Blank screen.

Any help would be appreciated. Not sure if I was using the right BIOS, but after a few trial and error sessions with the CH341A, I know I had it connected properly because I was able to read the chip.

Thanks.

The distorted logo and sudden loss of internal/external video strongly suggests an iGPU failure. I doubt the BIOS chip or firmware are faulty. Probably due to overheating somewhere along the line. Google search la-9532p aliexpress for a mainboard replacement. Older boards like this one are often shipped from stateside warehouses and may only take a few days. Otherwise 3-4 weeks

    >>> So I know the screen is fine. I know the cable is fine.>>>

How did you test each? Especially the LCD cable? Any HDMI out signal to a TV set? Try pressing FN+F6 and FN+F5 to toggle screens on.?

At this point, it's virtually impossible to determine the state of the BIOS chip firmware/hardware on a users forum like this. If the video issue is indeed due to BIOS corruption, the cold boot FN+ESC USB flash method using the FD  binary works less than 25% of the time.  If nothing else is wrong with the mainboard, it is usually easier and quicker to replace it with a pre-programmed WinBond chip using an ordinary pentip iron since it is a fairly sizeable 8-pin surface mount.  E1-572 chips are available for less than $20usd. New mainboards less than $60 if you don't want to fuss with it.

I'm assuming there was nothing wrong with the display because I had no problems with it while the computer was working prior to restarting it after installing a fresh copy of Windows 10. The owner also claims there was nothing wrong, but I know the unit has been in for repairs before. The corrupted Acer logo was a tip that there was an issue with the BIOS along with the exceptionally long boot time prior to getting a BIOS splash screen the one time that it did work.

Before attempting to service the inside of the unit I tried the VGA and HDMI output (separately) making sure to use the function keys in every possible variation to switch back and forth between exterior display and built-in LCD panel. No display.

I've replaced mainboards for other reasons, but this particular situation irritates me because it was working prior to restarting the unit. To suddenly have no display when all I did was remove and replace the hard drive makes me quite vexed.

Good call. I make it a regular habit to repaste the CPU and GPU whenever I work on a laptop and it looked like it had been done before. Someone has been in here monkeying around.

I'll order a new board today from AE (it's an LA-9531P). Thank you for the suggestion. I don't mind waiting several weeks (or months with the holidays).

Yeah, the 31P should work too but more expensive due to the AMD GPU chip.

I same issue, I have tried those things, but I didnot bought CH341A, but I am alsosure its BIOS issue, since. I kept my laptop without battry for more than 60day. Now its booted with ACER logo only, but next time same black screen.
