Nitro 5 (515-55) Why can BIOS detect new M.2 HDD but Windows 10 cannot?

Hi there,

I have just added a 2nd NVMe PCLe SSD to my Acer Nitro 5 (515-55) as the 1st PCLe SSD is nearly out of space.

Within the BIOS I can see both HDD0 (the original SSD with Windows 10 installed) and HDD1 (the new SSD).

Unfortunately I am unable to see this new SSD in Windows 10 (i.e. I am unable to see the new drive in 'Disk Management', only the original Disk 0 is visible).

Reading forums I am wondering if some sort of BIOS setting change may be needed for Windows 10 to detect the new HDD.

Could any of these settings make a difference?
  1. change SATA mode from 'RST' to 'AHCI' (may have nothing to do with this as these are M.2 drives)
  2. change UEFI to Legacy (note I was unable to try this...the only option was to select UEFI)
Anything else?

Otherwise could there be some sort of Windows 10 software to detect it properly?

Many thanks.

Hello again. Please note that I have solved my own issue now.

For those that may have a similar problem in future, I did not need to make any changes to the BIOS settings.

Instead I simply swapped the 2 NVMe SSDs around (original went into the new 2nd slot and the new went into the 1st slot).

After that Windows was able to detect both.

No idea why it wasn't working until I swapped them as I even tried removing then adding back in again before I did the total swap.
