Mouse not working on Acer Aspire 5-43 under Ubuntu 21.04

I'm taking a look at this laptop for a friend. She installed Ubuntu 21.04 over the Windows installation and everything seems to be working with one exception. The mouse, whether touchpad or external, doesn't move the pointer. It stays stuck in the lower left corner.

I've tried installing xserver-xorg-input-synaptics, I can't find anything in the BIOS that seems to apply to the touchpad. I'm pretty much at my wits end with this. Any help would be appreciated.

Unplug the mouse. Then try pressing FN+F7 to see if touchpad toggles on.

@aamirmurtaza Unplug your mouse first and then plug in. Then restart your system. After the system starts it will work properly. because on starting it will install all the features proper

If  FN+F7 is not working try f7 alone and check.   Make sure that you see touchpad symbol ( hand with fingers  on f7 key ) .    If you see it on f6  try fn + f6 or f6 alone and check ..

You can just solve it by changing touchpad from advanced to basic in main tab of bios settings.

  • What is the exact model? Example PH315-52-58VH. Sometimes a new bios version can fix the problem with the touchpad.
