Tried upgrading bios to 1.15 on windows ten
Failed 75% of the way through
laptop now bricked (ie black screen, no fan etc)
bios file downloads from acer carry NO .fd, .bin files etc

I am a senior tech and have tried the Fn+ESC plus power etc with a .wph file found in the temp dir ?

All I am asking is the full instructions on how to extrac the bin or fd file from the zip file

load it on a usb drive

and then instructions for flashing the bios.

Aspire 7745G - 9495

please advise

Sorry PaulKudla we can't comment on any BIOS related mods and/or instructions like you are asking, as its part of the “Acer Community User Agreement (ACUA)” and its forbidden on this forum. My advice to you is to replace the BIOS chip with a v1.15 BIOS formatted new chip for your 7745G.

    (1) Try running the extracted EXE file on another unrelated preferrably non-ACER Windows PC.
    (2) It should fail and give an error message. Don't close the error message. Leave it open or minimize it.
    (3) Search C : \ users folder and subfolders with FileExplore for a filename 'H2*.exe'.
    (4) Subfolder should contain ZLB_115.FD or similarly named binary.
    (5) This binary must be the only file on a FAT32 formatted stick with an activity LED
    (6) Plug the USB storage into a USB port.
    (7) Press Fn + ESC button then plug in AC.
    (8) Turn machine on and keep holding keys till you see LED activity on the stick
    (9) If successful the machine will reboot by itself

Unfortunately, this FN+ESC cold boot flash method works less than 25% of the time. So as StevenGen  suggested you might want to purchase a preprogrammed 7745G BIOS chip for less than $20. It is a sizeable 8-pin surface mount chip usually with a WinBond label that can be fairly easily replaced with an ordinary pencil tip soldering tool

BTW, if the laptop had a functional Win10 installation but possibly some unresolvable performance or device issues, none of the BIOS firmware downloads would've likely addressed these issues due to their design for execution and use on Win7 systems. It would've been  safer to try driver tool freeware like DriverBooster to try to find on line solutions. Firmware updates should be considered as a last resort to fix serious disabling issues due to the risk of even worse irreversible side effects like you've experienced. Sorry it happened.
