I had problems with this some months ago, and we thought it was the hard drive, so we switched to an SSD.
The problem dissappeared for some time but slowly reappeared. We installed Windows 10 recently and it worked fine. It has started to freeze far more frequently now though and Im fearing it might be for good this time. Today it has crashed or froze within 20 minutes of it booting. Yesterday was fine.

    How old is your PC?

Try retain just one memory module in the PC and see.

If PC is old enough, change the CMOS battery (CR 2032) too.

Before the freeze try running Resource Monitor and pay attention to the ram and disk usage. Sometimes freezes aren't really freezes, they are just holdups while what's in memory gets swapped out to the HDD.
