The battery on my Swift 5 does not charge anymore.
the led is permanently orange and the computer shuts down as soon as it is unplugged.
resetting the battery from the pinhole doe not seem to solve things.
is there any solution before I start looking for replacement of the battery?

    Hello!!

    @AMAB

It is sad to know that laptop battery stopped charging. From the description shared, it clearly seems to be Hardware issue. As the laptop goes off, when charger is unplugged... this confirms that battery is not holding any charge in it. If you believe that your computer is under Warranty, I recommend you to contact Acer Technical Support in your region and look for repair options.

    Hope the information helps you!!

    Regards,

We can better help if we knew what Swift 5 model you have? When you did the battery reset, did you do the full procedure with the various wait times or did you just do the reset button? Your model number should be something like SF5xx-xxx-xxxx.

Thanks, yes the wait times have been respected:
    PC unplugged
15 seconds hold on the button
    30 minutes wait
Re plug the PC and waited to full charge. But the led never went to green.

    My PC model is
    SF514-53T-72LJ

Yes, if you can't get the LED to turn blue, indicating a full charge, then the battery likely has a hardware issue. Your SF514-53T is old enough that you may not be in warranty any longer. If that's the case the stock battery is Acer part number: KT.00205.008. It's pretty easy to remove yourself, eleven screws for the bottom case, two more and a connector for the battery, then reverse to install. How old is the system?

So just past two years... That's early for a battery failure but not unknown. Check for pricing for a replacement battery and availability to your locale using the Acer part number and your favorite search engine, then let us know what you find. If you can't find a supplier that can service you you might have to get together with Acer support for a referral.

The vendor will depend on your locale, different ones support different countries. Do a search on the part number and if no vendors come up that service your country contact Acer support for a reference.

I already did for France. Not sure though about the batteries being original. It's sad that acer doesn't recommend a vendor for such pieces. Also don't want to end up buying some cr## that won't last 3 months

AMAB there are allot of reasons why the orange light and no charging happens. Yes I know that you did a reset of the battery already and it didn’t work. but it could be also that the BIOS software is stuck and needs a reset of the BIOS by removing the RTC battery out for a few seconds to reset the BIOS (see caption below). Or and in more complicated issues, it could be an internal circuitry problem like Mosfets, capacitors etc etc that are shortening out and/or burned out.

If you look at how experts diagnose and fix these problems its very intricate and you need specialist equipment to fix these problems, so take your laptop to an experienced technician. Have a look here at just one such example of how intricate it is to solve power and charger related problems. This relates to the problem that you are having, ok this is not the same laptop as yours but these charging/power problems are very much related, so have a look at this guy called Alex from NorthridgeFix who is one of the best micro soldering experts around and technician and how he diagnoses and fixes these faults “Laptop No power Not Charging Repair- How Mosfets work and short circuit diagnosis” as its intricate and needs to be done by an experienced technician like him.

    Hi Steven.

I am fully aware of that and I really thank you for that gentle reminder. However it does seem that it is obviously a battery problem. I'll try to plug a new one and I'll keep you updated. However do you recommand a known website from which I can purchase an original battery (to be delivered in france)?

Acer France should be able to give you a recommendation for a parts supplier that serves France, and possibly one that serves the whole EU.

Just to follow-up on this. Acer France sent me a battery (I baought it) and I replaced it by myself. (very easy).
I works like a charm and I hope it will last more than the previous original one.
One other Curious thing I found out is that the computer works way more smoother now. It was slow as hell when the battery was out and I didn't understand why. Still I don't understand why this happens even when the computer was put in Best performance mode. Anyway, I'm happy with the result.
