    It seems the keyboard would not type any zeros - I had to hold FN (lower left on keyboard) then F12.

    What computer do you have? What language is the keyboard setup for? Do you have a numeric keypad on the keyboard or is it the more compact keyboard used on most laptops? If it is coming up at the start with the NumLk on (hence the need for Fn-F12) then check in the BIOS, many of them have the NumLk status on startup configurable there.
