Nitro 5 AN515-54-51M5 Not Turning On, No Power, No lights

Hello all.  First post.  Hoping for some advice...  I have inherited a Nitro AN515-54-51M5.   It is completely dead.  I push the power button and nothing happens.  No lights light up at all.  Here's where I am at:

I checked the charger with a voltmeter.  Shows the expected 19v +/-.

I read online that many models have a battery reset button on the underside.  I have checked this model and it appears that it does not.  Nevertheless, I unplugged the charger and hold down the power button for 15-20 seconds.  No joy.

FWIW, the charger does not feel warm after plugging it in.  Guessing that means no power is flowing through it, so either the battery is fully charged, or the battery is completely dead and the circuit connecting to the battery is open.

Any other suggestions for simple tests I could try would be most appreciated.  I'm not an expert repair technician, but I'm tech savvy and comfortable opening up laptops...

    I am really sorry for the inconvenience..   Let us do the basic steps first..

     

    Doing the power drain and bios defaults will really help.  Kindly follow the steps given below:


    Turn off the laptop. Disconnect or unplug the charger cable, devices or any other cables connected to your laptop. Close your laptop. Turn it upside down.  On the bottom of the laptop, you can find a  pin hole. It is a tiny hole. You can a find a battery symbol indicator next to the hole. It is like a + and - sign symbol as though somebody is trying to shift the battery out. Insert the pin on to the hole for 30 seconds. Remove the pin. Flip the laptop. Connect the charger cable, turn on the computer.  Only on laptops where the battery is inbuilt you can find the battery reset hole on the back of laptop.


    If you don’t find a pin hole on the back of laptop then you might be using removable battery. There is no need to unscrew anything to remove the battery.  Turn off the laptop. Disconnect or unplug the charger cable, devices and any other cables connected to your laptop. Close your laptop. Turn it upside down.  On the bottom of the laptop, please look at the top or bottom depending on the way you look at it. You can find a long door. It is a battery removable door.  Just below that you can find a latch.  If you move the latch you can remove the battery door. Once the battery is removed, flip the laptop. Open the top cover, press and hold the power button for 1 minute. Connect the battery back on the back of computer. Connect the charger cable back and then turn on the computer. 

     

    If you don’t see a reset pin hole on the back of laptop or if you are not able to remove the battery (if it is inbuilt) then please unplug all the cables and devices out of laptop.   Hold the power button for 1 minute.  After releasing the button you should wait a while before plugging in power. Just because the button has been pressed doesn't bleed off all the residual electricity on the motherboard. Wait 15-30 minutes before plugging in power. Then once power is connected wait for a full battery indication before turning the system on. That allows the battery to fully reset it's internal statistics.

     

    Connect all the cables back and restart the computer.  



    While turning on the computer, tap f2. It will go to bios. Press f9 once. It will show load bios defaults with a yes or no popup. Press enter. Popup screen will disappear.  Press f10 once. It will show save changes popup with yes or no. Press enter. Computer will restart and it will load into windows.   

     

    It might also be the issue with battery, charger or power outlet.   Try to use the charger in a different room on a different power outlet.  Try to bypass the surge protector and connect it directly to power outlet.    Try to use an alternative charger if possible.    Try to turn on the computer without the charger and check it  ( as long as the battery is not drained out )

    I did everything suggested above and no joy.  Obviously, I can't enter the bios if the machine is stone cold dead.  I also did a couple other tests and still had no success, but here's what I now know...

    I pulled off the bottom case and checked battery voltage where the charging connector attaches to the main circuit board.  With the charger connected, I have 19v making it to the main board.

    I physically removed the built in battery and hold down the power button for one minute.  Reinstalled the battery.  No difference.

    I tried to check the voltage of the battery itself.  With the battery disconnected, the individual terminals on the battery connector are so microscopic and protected their their connecter, that it would be very difficult to test them with a meter.  However, with the battery connected, it was easy to test the battery voltage making it to the backside of the battery connector on the main board.  I only have 1.0v +/- between any of the red and black battery wires (with the battery plugged in to the PC).  The voltage was the same with the charger plugged in or unplugged.

    To me, that battery voltage is way too low.  But would that indicate either a fault with the battery, or a battery that was completely depleted as a result of another problem which has been preventing it from charging?  I also know that 19v is getting to the main board, but the 19v is NOT making it to the battery connector to charge the battery.  Does this indicate a fault with the main board, or is there some kind of failsafe that shuts the charging voltage down when the battery voltage is non-existent?

    Any suggestions would be most appreciated...

    I also think the battery is dead and needs to be replaced. But first disconnect the battery from the motherboard and check the voltage of the CMOS coin battery, should be at least 3.0 VDC, replace the battery if too low. Unseat the RAM DDR modules and insert them firmly back in the slots. close the back (don't connect the main battery yet) and try to boot with the power adapter only. If that works, open the laptop and connect the main battery to the motherboard, close the back and try to boot with the battery only, then with the power adapter plugged-in. If no results you battery is dead. If you cannot boot with the power adapter only you need the have the motherboard checked by a reputable PC repair shop.

    I don't know if you guys are still Experience in this problem with your Nitro 5 I had the same thing happening to mine so i. Took the bottom cover off the laptop. And I found a capacitor that was no good. It's the little ceramic capacitor. Check the motherboard for one of those little blowing ceramic capacitors. And I'm pretty sure if you get that or place, it will turn back on.

    It looks like a hardware issue. You might have to take the computer to local tech.

    If it is out of warranty, please contact local store or

    Go to the website support.acer.com - chose your country.   On the new page - scroll down -  Click on  "Repair My Acer" - Request to have your Acer product repaired.   There will be charges for repair.
