I may try that Jack as its the connector itself which has broken in half ie the female part of the connector has broken off,  a common problem for some Macs it seems.

Yeah. Like a lot of FDC mini/micro connectors ---  flimsy, delicate & cheap. Not a design that can re-seated more than once or twice without falling apart.

tried Driver booster 8 and it has not found a problem, I have the latest intel pro set drivers installed but device manager still reports a Code 10 fault. new antenna enroute will try again when they arrive.

    update.
New antenna fitted and I still have the code 10 issue however just to check that the 7265 actually works I fired up Linux Mint from a usb, asolutly no problems with the card, works a treat, so its a Windoze issue! wil just have to keep at it.

Thanks for reporting back on your success. You really don't need Windows with Mint installed. :)

Quite agree Jack however therein lies the new problem, how to get an installed version of Mint to boot on this machine......................the joys!

Does the Mint stick show the emmc chip as an option?

The emmc is there as a drive option to install to (just storage at the moment), I am also using a ssd drive for booting windows.

Do you have fast enough USB ports with your PC? I have no experiences with PCs having EMMC, however, I think if the PC allows booting from USB port then it should allow installing Mint.

Date back to my old 15 year old desktop, I was even able to boot from USB flash drive with some Linux distros, but USB 2.0 ports were just too slow and always had 15-30 seconds time delay between operations. I dropped the idea of flash drive Linux booting for that PC.  I have many different Linux distros ( including Mint)  installed to flash drives with my 5th generation Intel CPU Dell laptop under both UEFI and Legacy environments, because it has USB 3.0 ports and I use rather fast flash drives for that.

Maybe you can consider something like that.

Thanks for that, however the problem is not installing Mint (that is straightforward) it is getting the machine to boot to it after! an issue with UEFI and secure boot.

I think the key is your PC would allow USB port booting.

Mint has to be installed in AHCI mode. Once installed, it can be switched to RST-Optane mode later.
    Secure boot cannot be disabled?

Can you start a new thread about how you cannot use Mint and what you have done so far?

Stay in AHCI mode. Let's review. Before you installed Mint on the SSD, did you set and save a supervisor password, then re-enter the BIOS with the password to disable secure boot, then try to install Mint?

PS: Here's a one user did it the hardway earlier in the year. https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/comment/977339#Comment_977339
A perhaps easier way would've been to invalidate the hidden emmc EFI partition.

Not too sure what is going on with the bios setting for secure boot, as in the attached pic it is listed as 'custom'? so not simply a disable secure boot setting . should I take the erase settings option?
windows already boots on the ssd and I have installed Mint on same drive another partition, but dual boot does not work

Did you choose a default or a custom option to install Mint "ALONGSIDE" Windows

You've got an issue with the frozen SSD. You've got to try to clear this by setting and saving BIOS defaults with F9. then F10. Go back into the BIOS with the supervisor password and make sure it's cleared.

Did you already try to re-install Mint after clearing it?

yes I did and nothing changed, however an interesting thing came up at the start of the install, just after I selected the cdrom for boot, a blue screen with some uefi options!but it disappeared too quickly  to read it all? I am using Mint mate 20.2 64bit. so far I have not been able to get that blue screen back.

What CDROM are you referring to? Are you booting from a USB Mint install stick or not?
