Concern in Sending Off for Repair PH315-53-74YP

When I bought my Acer Predator Helios 300 PH315-53-74YP  first of all I was really excited, considering it was £1300 and I'd had to save up awhile. But after I had installed all of my games, it turned out the W key needed consistent high pressure to register that it was being pressed. Typing, this didn't matter but when you're playing games that utilise the W,A,S,D keys it begins to grate on you when you stop running mid fight.

But I dealt with this for a couple months as I thought it shouldn't really be too much of an issue. Then I was playing Sims 3 and the game crashed. The crash log said that the game couldn't find DX9 which I found strange.

Then, twice this has now happened, I was turning on the laptop and it got stuck on the boot logo. Forever loading. Turning it off and on again fixed this. But little things like this combined with higher than normal CPU temps have had me concerned.

I contacted Acer UK and spoke to a customer advisor on the phone. They just said to send it off for repair and if it was a manufacturing issue they would sort it. But I looked up reviews.

They are horrific. It seems over 100 people have had issues with repairs with Acer in the UK. Whether it be a "loss" of their pc, damage that was not present when sent off, charging for damage that had no way of happening in their care, smashed screens, scams, charging money for various issues and not fixing the problem, month long wait times. I am just so shocked by all of these. A particular review was specific in where they sent it. Exact same location of where im supposed to be sending mine in Telford.

I feel that maybe I should just do a clean reboot of windows and see if that fixes the files/boot up issue I was experiencing and just deal with the W key. But for spending over a grand - it's frightening how slack Acer seems to be on the whole subject.

Anyone have any advice for these issues? Thank you.

  • About the keyboard issue, try increasing the touchpad and keyboard sensitivity:

If the issue still occurs, I suggest you try to update the bios to the latest version: https://www.acer.com/ac/pt/BR/content/support-product/8376?b=1

About the problem with the game, are both video cards showing up in the device manager? You can reinstall windows by pressing alt+f10 before the acer logo!

@Dovahkhini i would just send it in if they have told you to as its their responsibility to fix it under warranty if you wait for your warranty to end then youre screwed and if they screw up anything keep sending it until they have fixed it properly dont forget to take pics of everything before you send it and backup whatever you need as data loss its not covered by any manufacturer only faulty hardware that wasnt damaged by the user and its almost the same with all manufacturers they do not have service centers in all countries (that would be madness) they just get 3rd party IT companies to act as authorized service centers to fix it under warranty some are good some are bad but UK its not the worst for ex India its probably one of the worst countries when it comes to 3rd party authorized service centers millions of complaints  there  :)
