R13 CB5-312T How to Boot from USB

Sorry if this is a duplicate but the forum search is not great.  I want to boot from a USB drive on my R13 CB5-312T.  I entered Developer Mode, then get to the "Warning" screen "Cntrl-D" and then try every known "boot menu" key combo and do not get a boot menu.  I have not cracked open the case yet - is there a "write protect screw"?  I thought those had gone away.  I have another used R13 on the way that I plan to explore inside but was hoping to accomplish this without opening my new R13 under warranty.  Thanks

PS - am I the only one that finds this forum search to be less than ideal?

There is, in fact, a write protect on the motherboard:
I believe that's still a requirement Google has for Chromebooks.
