Dismantling/Remapping the F1 - F12 Keys

Hello! I've recently purchased an Acer Aspire laptop and I could not be happier with my decision! However, I've found that whenever I'm using a program which makes use of any keys including or between F1 and F12, the function of each corresponding key unique to the computer will be performed, rather than that of the program I'm using. For instance, when I've hit the F2 key to execute a bind in a video game I've been playing, the computer instead shifts to airplane mode. Therefore, I was wondering - how can I dismantle the F1 - F12 keys so that I can use them only in the context of employed programs? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think there is a setting for the function keys in the laptop BIOS. You can set it to media keys or not.
Don't know what is your model and what BIOS version that you have?
Go there and check it out.
