Dear reader,

I have searched far and wide and found several similar issues and/or posts, however none of them seem t work, and compared to many threads many my problem is (slightly) different.

Last week I bought a new Acer Nitro 515-56 (32gb RAM) and it was working perfectly fine until today I was trying to create a backup, as I rather wanted to restore the backup from another old laptop (However due to safety reasons I first wanted to create a backup of the Acer itself). The laptop was plugged in, however, at one point or another I noticed that (during or perhaps after creating the backup) it shut off, and when it turned on again just mentioned "No Bootable Device".

After searching on the internet I found several explanations on how to access the BIOs and get access to the Boot section, be it as F2 or as F12 screen, and have tried multiple different combinations of turning on or off the "Secure Boot" and setting "User Passwords". Nevertheless, within the F2 window I am never able to change the UEFI Boot mode into Legacy (which may be for the best, but I don't have enough knowledge regarding such problems), whereas in the F12 window I simply get an empty window, the same as true for the F2 Boot section: There is not even a single name in the "Boot Priority Order" list. Most other threads or examples I found on the internet do have at least one item within the list, but I have 0.

Moreover, I hoped that perhaps I could just restory the factory setting via "Alt+F10", however no matter how often I tried (or during which section of the start up, or F2/F12 window for the matter) it does not work.

Yes, I have seen the occasional solution of removing the battery (be it and internal or an external one), however, I don't know how problematic that would be regarding my insurance policies, as I simply only ave the laptop for 6 days. So in that case I'll just send it back and request a new one, because prior to this morning it as been working perfectly fine.

I partially hope that somebody has had a similar problem and found their solution, and otherwise hope that somebody can tell me that the best option would indeed just be sending it back and asking for a new one.

Thank you in advance, and have a nice day.

Interesting that we both have the same issue on same day DirelessWolf! These machines use nvme m2 SSD's. which have a tenancy to be kinda sensitive. I'm wondering if one of my kids dropped it when I wasn't looking. I opened it up and everything seemed fine inside. No loose connections that I could see and certainly nothing noticeably broken that I could find.

In my bios the hdd0, hdd1 (both are PCIe slots)are recognized on the information overview page but they wont even show up in the Boot order screen. UEFI is the only option there by the way as I think is always the case when using nvme drives (but I could be wrong here.

The HDD0 Model Names and Serial numbers are showing indeed. However, unlike CryptoWell, HDD1 just states "None"

    Hi DirelessWolf,

    # Try to get the BIOS page.
    1. Turn OFF the unit.
    2. Press and hold the F2 key and turn on the unit.
    3. You will be in setup utility page.
    4. Once you got the screen release the F2 key.
    5. Tap on F9 key and hit enter key without changing the option.
    6. Tap on F10 key and hit enter key without changing the option.
    7. Your unit will restart by itself.

Check this T/S and post the result.

Hey Easwar, I can still do so if you like, but I fixed "my" problem. I cannot say that I fixed the problem that let me into the No Bootable device state. But as said; My laptop was barely a week old, and it barely contained any files, so I just tried to re-install Windows from a USB stick, which eventually worked. Although I will day: I am thankful for this other thread (https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/623583/cant-install-any-system-on-acer-aspire-5-a515-56), because I was very annoyed (and worried) at first as I couldn't find any drivers to install Windows on.

So, in case you just want to start fresh with the laptop, that is an option, but besides that, I haven't been able to find a way to restart my laptop.

So CryptoWell, if you have an external backup, I would advise to maybe just reinstall windows by means of the posted link and USB stick method, if not, then I am sorry, but I have no clue on how to restart your laptop, because I haven't found any way to make it work.

Not that it matters, but on a side note, I am very confused that the ACER just removed everything that I downloaded/did last week (which makes sense), besides however somehow the background picture; It has retained the background picture I manually changed (although maybe that is just me not knowing much about pc hard drives and settings).

Thank you for your help, and CryptoWell: Goodluck in case you still need it!
