Hello,
my daughter's Acer Aspire three crashed completely earlier this year when we'd only had it just over a year. Just out of warranty unfortunately.

There is a blue screen
Unexpected I/O error
File: \windows\system32\winload.efi
Error code: 0xc00000e9

the only button that works is ESC to go to BIOS.

Acer have offered to look at if GBP60, then charge me further depending on what is wrong with it....
I have looked at loads of youtube videos, none work.
i've spent hours looking for solutions online and due to this have even entered into the wilds of BIOS.

Our only other laptop is my MacBook pro (which i have had for years with no problems btw). I have not been able to find a recovery programme to download and the laptop didn't come with one.

I've bought a USB stick to download a Windows recovery programme but I am very concerned to do this from a reputable source.  Any suggestions, or do I need to buy one.

This is needed for schoolwork.

Any help appreciated

It might help to know the full ACER model number. ACER makes hundreds of different laptop & hybrid laptop tablet models so it's hard to guess what you have.

Arguably the best way to rule in or rule out a hardware issue is a factory reset from the hidden ACER OEM Win10 recovery partition. As long as you haven't tried to use a 3rd party Windows recovery program, the hidden OEM recovery partition should still be accessible.

So try this. Turn the machine off with the charger plugged in. Then turn it back on and immediately press and hold the ALT key while tapping the F10 key.  A recovery screen should appear to allow you to refresh the system while trying to save personal data or an erase-everything factory reset that returns the system to an original out of the box state.
