My laptop won't switch on without the power cable plugged in and whilst it was doing an update the cable accidentally came out and since then when the laptop is switched onits just stuck on the acer logo screen. No loading circle, nothing else just that. I've tried taking the battery out and leaving it, disconnecting the Internet and numerous ways to access bios (f2, esc&f2, fn/alt&every f number etc) but nothing changes. Please can someone help!

You'll likely have to re-install Windows. If you have personal files that you want to try to save, the HDD should probably be connected to another machine's USB port to copy the personal files before attempting it. What was the original factory installed Windows version(Win7? Win8?)

It was Windows 8. I'm a bit of a dunce with things like this, how would I get the hdd and connect it to another computer to transfer?

With a 2.5" USB-to-HDD/SSD adapter cable. Less than $10 from places like Amazon. Just plug it in to another computer's USB port and it should show up as the D :  \ or E ;  \ drive from which you can copy your personal stuff.

    Hi Rutht17,

    # Try to update the battery driver

    1. Hold windows key and hit letter X.
    2. Choose the device manager option.
    3. Go with the option battery.
    4. Under the title battery.

    5. Right click on that option ----> Update all driver under the title battery.
    6. Choose "search automatically".

Check this T/S and post the result.

Thanks but holding the windows key and x didn't do anything, still stuck on the acer screen unfortunately. I can hear the fan but it's as if the computer isn't trying to load anything. Thank you anyway.

Thanks I'll probably have to try this. How will I reinstall Windows once I've saved personal files externally?

We'll first try to do re-install it from the hidden ACER OEM Windows reset partition on the HDD. If this partition is still intact, it can be accessed by the ALT+F10 cold boot recovery method. If that fails we can re-install either a generic verison of Win8x or Win10 from a USB stick using Microsoft's USB installation media creation tool. But before attempting to do any of this, you should try to get your personal stuff off the drive on to another computer's drive just in case the drive goes completely haywire.

Hi, not yet. I think one of the tech gurus at work is going to try for me. I'll let you know the process and result when that happens. Won't be for a couple of weeks at least though.

Awe. You can do it too. All you do is shut the machine off. Turn it back on and immediately press and hold the ALT key while tapping the F10 key. The recovery screen menu should appear to give you the option of resetting the machine while trying to save your personal files. Pretty straightforward menu.
