Timeline 1830T: Can I use the SD card slot for a Ubuntu install/main OS installation ?

I want to make an installation card with one of my SD cards that I can also optionally use as the OS installation. I'm reading about issues with speed when OS not installed on the hard drive. Will this be fast enough? I imagine as fast or faster than a CD drive right?

Booting from SD is not supported, try a flash drive instead, a;though even then the performance might be terrible, since it's USB 2.0 only. You might want to look into replacing the HDD with a larger SSD and installing the alternate OS in a partition there.
