Why does my nitro 5 keep frame dropping and overheating?

I have had a nitro 5 for a while now and at first it was great and could handle most games without a problem. After 3 months or so (I've had my nitro for almost a year now), my fps started dropping in most games and it went to a point where my nitro 5 couldn't even support games like Minecraft on 60fps. After opening games like rocket league or Minecraft the fans would instantly go spinning and its always super loud, like unbelievably loud, there's also this sort of plastic-y smell coming from it when it overheats (which happens regularly. My fps also seems to be fine when I play on super low graphics but that only lasts for a short while until it starts having frame freezes non-stop for a long period of time . Are there any reasons for these problems and are there ways to fix it? (other than tweaking the settings)
