I got myself a new Acer Aspire 5 with above model no. I see it has a USB-C port. I did a bit of research on this form and see it does not support video output(which really is sad as it's something so basic). Now I got a USB-C to USB-C cable in the hope of being able to connect my phone and transfer data but it does nothing. So no video output, no data transfer, no charging, what exactly is its use?

It should be able to transfer data 🤔 does it charge the phone when plugged in?

It actually does nothing. With a regular cable, it works fine.

Sounds like a broken port or a broken cable then! Have a go with another cable / device and see if windows detects anything.

Its a brand new laptop & cable. I don't have any other computers with USB-C ports. Any way to run some software to see if the port is functioning properly?

Hi so on your point I tried to loosen the cables a bit & I can see the connection come on and off. I suspect this could be the cable(or the port, don't know yet). I might just take it back to the store & test it with them.

The USB Type-C port on the A514-54G connects to USB devices that adopt the USB Type-C connector. Supports USB 3.1 Type-C, Gen 1 with transfer speeds up to 5 GB/s, you can transfer data with the USB-C, btw, for video output use the HDMI side plug.
