Hi,  I have an Acer Aspire 5 - A515-55 that I would like to connect to 2 external monitors (with each monitor showing different output - I don't just want duplicate displays). The laptop has 1xHDMI port, 2 USB3 ports and a USB-C port. The two monitors have HDMI and VGA connections. The first monitor is connected via the HDMI->HDMI ports. I've tried getting the second monitor to work with various other connectors from the USB-C and USB-3 ports but with no luck. The monitor is not recognised as being connected. ACER Support suggested I purchase a universal docking station, but reading through some of the threads I don't think that will work either. It will allow duplication of the display but not two separate external outputs.

Any advice greatly received.

No, a good dock will give you another independent video source for the third monitor. As long as you aren't choosing one of the cheap USB-C to HDMI or DP cables that rely on the special DP over USB-C mode you'll be good.
