My spin 3 won't recognise my finger print

I am having difficulty getting the finger print scanner to work on my Acer spin 3 notebook. It worked without a glitch when I first purchased the laptop and then one day stopped working. I have googled a few different troubleshoot techniques but have had no luck. Windows recognises that my device has a finger print scanner, however when I go to "set up" my finger print on Windows Hello it does not recognise my finger print when I 'swipe' it on the scanner. I have cleaned the reader several times and I have tried to re-download the software from the Acer website, however no improvement was made.
