My acer aspire 3's power button suddenly malfunctioned. I can't seem to turn the laptop by just simply pressing the power button, I now have to press the space bar ( since I haven't tried pressing any other keys aside from that.) in order for it to turn on. I pressed the power button after the laptop turned on to see if the power button works, but the moment that I pressed the power button, the laptop immediately shut down. Is there a way for this to be fixed? since it has become quite troublesome.

There are dozens of A3 models. What is your full A3 model number? For example, A315-44G?

Have you ever removed the RAM door, HDD door or bottom cover for any reason?

    Hi giean,

    Try to do power drain,

    1. Turn OFF the unit.
    2. Unplug the charger.
    3. At the bottom there will be a tiny pin hole with battery sign close to it take a pin or paper clip and insert into it hold that button for 20-30 seconds. Then turn ON the unit and check.

No. The keyboard just suddenly malfunctioned.

If the machine also turns on when you press within any of the red outline areas shown below the spacebar, try to gently tighten the screws on the bottom cover so it presses a bit harder on the top keyboard cover to see if the problem is fixed.

Are you sure you are fully shutting down and not in Sleep mode? Pressing any key to wake the system is only possible in sleep mode. Disable Fast Startup and hibernate (edit Power Plan), change your Power Plan to Balanced Power Plan and reset Balanced Power Plan to factory defaults. When shutting down click on start and on the right corner click on the power button icon, then click on Shutdown. To test the keyboard Power Button while Windows is running, press the power button lightly for a split second and see if the system goes in sleep mode. If nothing happens check what the power button does in Power Plan, if set to nothing change it to sleep and try again to press the button for a split second. If still nothing, Restart the system (click on start then on Power and Restart) and try again. If that still has no effect, you need to bring the laptop to Acer Services in your country to repair/replace the power button.
