I have the same problem. I already have my charger repaired and checked by a multimeter and it was fine (19.5V output). It turns off when I open applications other than my browser and charges only when put to sleep or turned off.

Should I buy a new battery? Or is this a software-related problem?
It's also important to note that I repaired my charger because it was very hot and it kinda melted.

    Yea. What really happened was:
1.The original charger of this laptop was not working because of its jack (idk if how many years old is this laptop tho because it is office property) so the IT guys gave me a universal charger. It worked for about a couple of months.
    2. Few days ago, when I was charging the laptop, I smelled something like plastic burning and found out that it was because of the universal charger getting hot particularly in the box-part of the charger.
    3. The technician decided to remove the jack from the original charger and have it replaced by the one used in the universal charger. I had it tested by the multimeter and it was fine.
    4. Now, the charger is working but only when I'm not using applications except Chrome, MS Office apps or any other apps. I've tried charging the laptop while running DotA 2 but after sometime, it does not charge. Only when I turn it off or put it to sleep does it charge again. But when I resume DotA 2, it does not charge again.

Charger's probably too small. Depending on what laptop model you have, you may need a 65 or 90 watt charger. What laptop model? A515-53? E5-576G?

Too small? Idk because the "box" I'm using rn is the original one while the jack is from the universal charger.
    It's a TravelMate P259-MG while the charger is 65W.

Google TravelMate P259-MG charger for vendors who ship to your location. New chargers are less than $20 for this. Don't mess around with an old charger that's been jury-rigged.

The original charger is a 65W for your model, so that is correct. You say it does charge as long as the laptop is shutdown or asleep, so it is putting out the correct voltage (19V). The symptoms are though that it doesn't charge when the computer is running. That means the charger isn't able to put the full 65W out even though the voltage is correct. I can think of scenarios where a bad battery wouldn't charge, but not where it does charge under no load but does not when it's loaded. Likely your best bet is to replace the faulty charger and only start down the battery replacement path if a new charger doesn't work. The proper battery charger will be 65W 19V 1.7x5.5x11mm ( 'barrel' connector, 1.7mm inside diameter, 5.5mm outside diameter, 11mm in length) The 5.5mm outside is easy, the 1.7mm inside is a little tougher, lots of them are larger inside and they'll be very unreliable if too big. One of the Acer part numbers for the stock charger is: KP.06501.010, but there are something like six different part numbers, because Acer purchased from several vendors.

    Hi Stark00,

    Try to do power drain,

    1. Shutdown the unit.
    2. Unplug the cables connected to the unit.
    3. At bottom of the unit there will be a small tiny pin hole with a battery symbol close to it. Take a pin or a paper clip insert into it you feels like pressing a button hold it for 20-30 seconds.
