Aspire A515-55 won't let Acer EB321HQU in a standby mode once the screen turns off

Today I upgraded my 24" Samsung monitor with Acer EB321HQU to use with my Aspire A515-55 and I ran into a strange issue.
When the screen goes off on the laptop (i.e. in 10 mins of standby) the external monitor starts checking other inputs and eventually comes back to HDMI.
At this point it shortly throws no signal issue and enters standby. However, at this very moment I hear a typical "device disconnected" sound followed by "device connected" and the monitor turns on and starts going over input modes and the story repeats endlessly. I tested the monitor with my Dell laptop and the issue didn't happen, therefore I rule out the monitor issue. Contrary, with the Samsung display, I also hear "device disconnected" sound, however, the display stayed in the standby mode.

Sounds like your laptop is cycling between sleeping & awakening after the lid screen turns off. Have you tried to play with advanced sleep mode settings in your power plan? They vary by machine so you'd have to experiment.

Yeah, I tried different things, nothing appears to affect the issue. Also I've just updated to the latest intel UHD Graphics driver (to version 27.xxx) and issue is still present.

Also, I should clarify by "the monitor turns on" I mean that the external monitor exits standby mode (amber light turns blue) and starts cycling over the inputs until it gets to HDMI. Then brief standby and then repeats again. The lid screen remain off at this time.

The whole thing is not that big of an issue, but would really be nice to be able to have my screens off, while I leave my computer to do some overnight calculations.

Yeah. But it's annoying. What happens when you toggle FN+F5 just one time? If nothing, how about toggling the combo one more time? If still nothing, toggling FN+F5 the third time?

This is interesting. On the first time I hit nothing happens (extend screens). Second time, my laptop screen turns off (second screen only) and external monitor stays on. On the third hit, the monitor turns off and laptop becomes the main screen and the external monitor starts cycling over inputs. Once it reaches back HDMI, the laptop screen turns off and monitors stays on being the main screen.

To clarify further, I am using the external monitor as the main display.

Second clarification, when I make laptop display the main display, the issue persists. Once I reach "PC screen only" Laptop display stays on until the monitor reaches HDMI input and then, the monitor stays on and laptop display turns off. In addition, the resolution and orientation section become grayed out.

    Hi Zvi,

Are you getting the same issue when you connect different monitors to the acer laptop.

I think one of the three FN+F5 toggle key combos should give the same results as the Samsung. Do you still have the Samsung we can play around with?

So I just got my hands on my old Samsung. The issue doesn't appear with this monitor whatsoever. FN+F5 works properly with the Samsung. What I am going to do now is to grab the HDMI cable that I have on the Samsung and check it with the new Acer monitor. If that does not fix the issue, I am taking the Acer monitor back to Staples.

Just tested with the cable from Samsung monitor. Once the screen turns off, the monitor throws cable not connected error and does not go into the sleep mode. In fact, the issue persists on both Acer A515-55 an older Dell laptop. Fn+F5 doesn't work properly on A515-55 with Samsung cable either.

Another clarification, with Samsung cable, "Cable not connected" eventually disappears and the monitor cycles through inputs again.

Does the Dell & Acer monitor still work properly with the ACER cable?

Yes it did. Although my Dell is 6 or 7 years old. I ended up returning the monitor. Too bad, I had a version with height adjustable stand and really liked it. Will be looking for a 32in Samsung or something else.

Thanks everyone for you input. I really appreciate all the help.
