I am getting the

Aspire 5

Model Name: A515-56-76J1

What I am looking for is: How much memory can it take? Is there an available slot? It comes with 12 GB. I am guessing 4GB soldered in and 8GB removable. Am I correct? Also, what memory module should I purchase for the max amount?

Correct. You can exchange the replaceable 8GB sodimm with a 16GB DDR4 sodimm 2400MHz or faster. Specs say 20GB max allowed by mainboard BIOS but another user might be trying a 32GB sodimm just to see what happens on a similar model in case production changes were made since the specs were published.

I cannot find the RAM spec on this computer anywhere. Acer support does not even recognize the SNID OR the serial #
What is the spec on the 4GB RAM on board?  And does it matter what speed a new 16GB SODIMM is with respect to the on board 4GB.

Open task manager. Click performance tab. Click memory. Frequency speed should be shown in lower right pane. Probably 2666MHz or 3200MHz in newer mainboards. Any 16GB DDR4 sodimm module that's as fast should be fine. You can run the crucial.com scanner on your machine to see what it recommends.

I suggest that you run the Crucial System Scannerand then you will find out all RAM and SSD upgrades.
