Chromebook 714 black screen

I have a barely 1 year old Acer Chromebook 714, and the screen is totally black. I am unable to get it to display anything. Have tried holding power button, refresh button and esc key and combinations thereof, for > 30 seconds; unplugging power supply, plugging in power supply; closing lid, even CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+R which I read somewhere, but none of them have made any difference. Screen is totally black.

I can plug in an external monitor via the USB-C port and that works, so ChromeOS is running. If I go to the displays section in the ChromeOS settings, I only see listed the external monitor, not the screen.

Anyone got any ideas?

If your display works and you are getting an image on an external monitor then there is nothing wrong with your display adaptor that is part of the CPU and is the Intel UHD Graphics 620 but and as there is something wrong with your Chromebook 714 internal 14-inch LCD screen or its components and cables? Due to these cables being susceptible to and linking the LCD screen to the motherboard from its location in the top case to the motherboard that is in the bottom case, this cable is susceptible to allot of wear and bending when you open and close your laptop. These wear factors cause numerous problems such as, firstly it could be that the LCD screen is faulty and not working or the connecting cables plug to the motherboard has either come lose and/or is not making a connection and/or that cable is damaged and has a split and needs replacing. If your Chromebook 714 is under warranty "don't touch it" and send it or take it to your local Acer support centre, if its not, then take it to an experienced technician that can analyse this problem and replace fix the exact problems that you have.

The frustrating thing is that this happened 1 year and 5 days after we bought it! Almost as if it was designed to fail exactly a year later.

Is a power wash worth doing do you think or will I be wasting my time?

I hear what you are saying about the cable bending etc. but this is a laptop! It is meant to be designed properly to withstand the lid opening and closing thousands of times. I will try and get it repaired but if that is prohibitively expensive I will have to buy another, but it certainly won't be an Acer.

Shine a flashlight on the screen at an angle to see if it's the backlight that has failed. If so you will see faint images on the display.
