The Model Number of my laptop is:  PH317-54-70YD

To explain the problem, this has now happened twice in the last two days.  I've come back to my laptop after it's been closed for a while and it refuses to power on at all.  This means I have no boot screen or access to either the BIOS or an operating system when it does this because the computer simply doesn't respond to the power button.  For informational purposes, this is a newer model that doesn't have the battery reset hole or an easily accessible battery.  I tried holding down the power button for 30 seconds to reset the battery as some have suggested but that didn't work.

The only thing that has worked is to remove all of the screws, unclip the bottom of the laptop entirely to access the battery, then unplug the battery and plug it back in.  After unplugging the battery from the motherboard and plugging it back in, the computer powers up normally but I'm assuming that this problem wont fix itself and if anything would get worse with time.

I don't want to be in a position where I have to disassemble the computer to access the battery every time I want to use it so I was wondering if there's anything I can do to diagnose and fix the problem.

I highly doubt that the problem is the adapter because when this problem happens, there's still an orange light on the side of the computer when it's plugged in which at least indicates that the computer is receiving power from the adapter.  The problem could be the battery but it seems strange that unplugging it and plugging it back in would fix a crucial battery problem.  The battery is new and holds a charge just fine.

I just wish there was a way to diagnose the problem so I knew what to do.  I purchased this laptop though Best Buy but it's an Acer Recertified refurbished laptop so I'm not sure what the situation on the warranty would be by now.  It's been over 2 months since I got the computer.

If this laptop is under warranty then take it back to Acer service (who have all the OEM parts to diagnoses and fix your issues) in your local area or send it to them and 'don't touch it' as the warranty could be voided! These power on/off and no power or charging issues are NOT a software issue and/or something that you can fix yourself.

If its not under warranty phone Acer and ask them what the best cause of action is and how much it would be to repair? As it could be that its something to do with the motherboard power and/or charging circuitry and components that are either shortening out, burnt and need replacing, you don't have the expertise and/or tools to do these jobs! Or another solution and if there is any cost issues with Acer fixing this problem involved? Then search your area and/or the web and send or take your laptop to an expert circuitry computer technician that can diagnose/fix your problem.
