Hi Guys,

I have helios i5 8th gen with 1060 gpu, roughly 3 years now. However it has been heating up recently during heavy game usage ~ 97-98c.

Tried using thermal paste, seems like ended up killing my gpu :(:(

I'm trying to connect to utrawide monitor on integrated cpu graphics which is not working using hdmi to hdmi connector

Things tried : 1. uninstalling all nvidia drivers 2. sfc scan now to fix any problems

Is there any way i make use of this just to work on ultrawide monitor until i get this repaired or replaced :(

The HDMI port is connected directly to your dead GPU, so I don't think it will work. You can try some USB 3.0 to HDMI adapters.

Thanks...wondering about the game latency in that case. Also does the cost of replacing motherboard with 1060 gtx 6 gb sounds economical than going for a new desktop build.

    looking for thoughts!

@isaacbruno : so it seems type c can not be used to project display in helios . Seems like only way to add external display is using hdmi.

Is there any way to connect hdmi to uhd graphics?. stuck with this junk not useful in anyway :(:(

Did you used a conductive thermal paste like Liquid metal?

You can try non-type C USB adapters. They work as a USB "external gpu" (maybe not, in fact) and do not necessarily need a thunderbolt interface.

    Try: https://pt.aliexpress.com/item/1005002663796908.html

I don't know if this particular device works correctly because I haven't tested it, but I've seen a lot of people using something like that on the internet, it might workCancel

"Rudra12" allowing and playing your Helios at these high temps is not good and no wonder you have blown your 1060 GPU on a 3 years old laptop as its GPU and for that matter the CPU's on a laptops will not be replaced or attempt to be replaced by all good reliable technicians that specialise in micro soldering and have all the right equipment as it doesn't work and its a very hard specialised job! A new "Nokotion para acer predator helios 300 G3-571 portátil placa-mãe sr32q I7-7700HQ cpu gtx 1060 ddr4 c5prh LA-E921P mbdummy057" is US $469.00 plus shipping so its depends on your budget if you want to build a new desktop as.

Also when you say "I have helios i5 8th gen with 1060 gpu, roughly 3 years now. However it has been heating up recently during heavy game usage ~ 97-98c" these temps are way too high and you should have not allowed these temps to get that high, the MX4 paste is a good general paste but pastes are not a magic wand tofix overheting, you should always clean your fans and vents and use a tablet cooler to force more air into your laptop case. Btw, the new Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Extreme works the best for these high temps but its not the only solution!

Anyway, your integrated GPU in your i5 8th Gen Intel CPU has these specs > Intel® UHD Graphics 630 which and with its Graphics Base Frequency 350MHz and Graphics Max Dynamic Frequency 1.05GHz and Graphics Video Max Memory 64 GB should be adequate for your ultrawide monitor as your 1060 GPU is most likely blown and the motherboard needs replacing.

@StevenGen: I see..at $469 it is a steal, however here at my place...its costing ~$650 (checked at service center here, rough estimate)... Even if i go for international Order its gonna cost somewhere same since import duty is huge..here.

But considering uhd graphics 630 can handle bigger screens, is there any way about it (since hdmi is not working and usb type c cannot be used for display)

I'm keen for a external display momentarily cause its huge help in developing huge ML/AI models, something really important off work projects i do on system

From pricing perspective, i'm thinking to go for my own build ~$1900-2000 in some time which can last longer and can be upgraded as per requirement in future

    Thanks for the help!

@isaacbruno: Thanks man, i'm a bit skeptical going for an external gpu is a right way to go ... Saw few reviews online that issues in latency while gaming is a lot. Certainly this is a solution on immediate basis, but something not useful in long run...specially in battle royales like apex implications could be huge and investment in this can turn out to be another mistake :( ... latency in my boy octane in stim costs a lot :P :D

But really appreciate for the suggestion man! :):)

    Thanks!
